I had a similar situation with Airbnb. We had a short trip with relatives to Key West planned, and decided to cancel. We were actually within the 50% refund period, but Airbnb has a "contingency" policy and when Key West declared an emergency, Airbnb made KW eligible. So we canceled, and within about an hour I had the full refund...100%.
I'm always leery of booking hotels through third parties because you can run into traps doing that. We have a college orientation coming up in late May, and to my chagrin I realized I had booked it through a booking site and prepaid. After a short conversation with my new best friend at the hotel, I canceled the booking site reservation well within the cancellation period and rebooked directly through the hotel. And...in the process, I saved $55! Turns out, that booking site wasn't such a great deal after all.
