Dining Review

I don’t usually post, but the reviews were so helpful to me I thought I’d write quick one. We were on the dining plan, but I don’t have the receipts handy. We love to eat a good restaurants!

Day One
We arrived at Animal Kingdom Lodge and headed straight to Flame Tree BBQ. DH had the ribs which were fantastic! Very meaty. The sides were not that good, the beans were so so and the corn had no flavor.

I had the Pork Sandwich. It was okay as well, I wish I had gotten the ribs, they were sooooo much better!! The Pork was better once I put some bbq sauce on it, without it, it was kind of bland.

DD had a hot dog, not much to say about that.

Rating: B

For dinner that night we had ressies at Jiko. All I can say is Wow! The wine list was amazing. For appetizers we had the bacon, arugula flatbread and the firecrackers. The flatbread was so good. All the flavors perfectly came together. The firecrackers were also good, there was a very nice sauce with them.

DH had the Filet-the reduction sauce was great and the mac and cheese was really the perfect compliment. He kept raving about how good it all tasted together. The meat was perfectly cooked also.

I had the shrimp curry which was also outstanding. The shrimp were moist and plump and the vegetables were great as well.

DD had the mac and cheese which was really good.

For dessert I had the pistachio crème brulee which was to die for. I’m sorry to say I do not remember what DH got! I was just too wrapped up in my meal!

Day 2
We headed off to the Crystal Palace for breakfast. The food was good for a buffet, I’m not a big breakfast eater, but I did have a little bit of everything. We all enjoyed this very much.

Rating: B+

Lunch-We headed to Epcot so we ate at Sunshine Seasons. I had the beef flatbread which was really good. DH had a sandwich (not sure which one) that he raved about. DD had mac and cheese and didn’t really like it there. For dessert I had crème brulee which was awful! Not sure what DH had again.

Rating: B+

Dinner-We had ressies at Boma. Now I know a lot has been written about it so I was very anxious to try it. DH and I are very adventurous. With that said, I LOVED this restaurant and my DH was not impressed. I have to say if you do not like strange food, do not go here. For me it would not be worth the $ to eat the few things that were more mainstream.

They had prime rib that night, but you really only get a small amount each time-the meat was perfect! I also tried all of the African dishes and they were great. The soups were amazing as well.

The desserts were so so. I didn’t care for the zebra domes, but loved this coconut pudding they had.

Day 3
My DH golfed this day so I basically just snacked at Mara. He had a cheeseburger that was very good.

We wound up eating at Boma again and I loved it just as much. The Coconut Seafood stew was sooo good as well as the Butternut squash soup. Didn’t care for the sausage soup as much.

Day 4
We had lunch at the Magic Kingdom and headed to Peco’s Bills. DH had the double bacon cheeseburger and I had the single. DD had the chilled chicken platter. All of our meals were great. Not sure of the dessert, but we loved it here. The fixin’s bar was the best!

For Counter Service: A

We had ressies at Le Cellier and I was so excited after reading all of the good reviews. We started with the bread, the pretzel bread was good, not great. DH had the cheddar cheese soup which was outstanding! I had the shrimp cocktail. It was definitely not what I expected, the shrimp were teeny tiny and were in a sweet/sour sauce. It was tasty, but I really wanted a traditional shrimp cocktail. For Dinner we both had the mushroom filet. Wow, for one credit, this place was awesome! Both our filets were cooked to perfection and the mushroom risotto was so yummy. We both had the crème brulee, it was so good. Not sure if I liked that one or Jiko’s better, but they were both so good!

Day 5
We ate breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table. My dd love being there and that’s all that mattered. DH liked the scrambled eggs. Really don’t go here to eat-the food is awful. But the experience is magical if you have a princess lover.

Food rating: D

For lunch we ate at Mara, I had a great Chicken Cesar Salad and DH had a burger again. I really liked the choices at Mara.

Rating: B+

We were supposed to eat at Hollywood and Vine for the Fantasmic Package, but the parks were so hot we didn’t want to go back that early. So instead we went to MGM late, had some snacks and ate at the ABC Commissary. We each had the Cuban Sandwich which was good and the black bean salad with it was really yummy. It was a pleasant surprise.

Day 6
For lunch we ate at Mara again. I got the fried shrimp which were really big and fresh. DH had a burger again. Definitely decent counter service.

The highlight of our trip was eating dinner this night. We had ressies for 7:00 at the California Grill. My SIL and her hubby wanted to meet us there so I called the restaurant directly (the dining line was not helpful, they couldn’t even give me the number, I had to call the Contemporary and get transferred there). It wasn’t a problem at all, we just had to wait a little bit for a bigger table. The service was outstanding and the view, well Wow is all I can say! Its funny, this is the most grown up of the places and they treated my dd better than any other place. They brought her a large piece of paper to color on and even a bowl of goldfish to snack on!

We decided to order extra food since it was our last night. So we order the full cheese plate, so good! And DH had the foie gras which he raved about.

Since we are sushi lovers we got the tuna sashimi and the Big Bang Roll (both were considered apps for the dining plan). The fish was so tender, it melted like butter. Both were outstanding.

For dinner DH had the rack of lamb, again cooked to perfection and so good. I had the scallop dish which was also perfect. The scallops were so tender.

For dessert we had a bananas dish and the molten chocolate cake. They were both a great end to a great meal. And we were able to stay for the fireworks which was the perfect spot!

For me, the 2 table credits were more than worth it. The food is just the best!

Please feel free to ask me any questions!

Thank you for your review. :thumbsup2

We absolutely loved the Cali Grill too and have it down for our next vacation. My husband likes fairly plain food, so you answered my concern about Boma. Isn't eating at Disney just great! :teeth:
