Easter is VERY late this year, April 24th. It is the first year my kids have a different spring break - one has the week BEFORE Easter and one has the week AFTER. We are considering coming to CA, including DL, for the first time, having been to WDW six times in the past. With the holiday- how bad will the crowds be?

We are locked into Thursday April 21 through Tuesday April 26th. My tentative plan would be Thurs- Fri at DL, and one other day. Should we plan on Saturday, or Monday or Tuesday? I'm concerned with crazy crowds, especially on the weekend. Is it possible it won't be that bad as these days may be blocked out for Annual Pass Holders?

I'd appreciate feedback from DL vets as to the crowd level- it is Easter, but VERY late in the spring break season, as well as feedback on the best days to visit with the holiday. Thanks!

Our other option is to brave WDW this week- at least we know the parks, and how to navigate them! If you have been to both parks, which would you recommend during a holiday time? TIA

We have been for Easter several times now. Easter has never been as late as this though when we go, so I am not sure what effect if any that will have on crowds. Our experiences with Easter have been that the week before Easter has been busier than the week after. Our guess is that more schools let kids out for the week before than after, and that may be more true this year with the holiday falling so late in April. We have been on Good Friday before and found that really crowded, perhaps because some people actually get or take the day off work. Easter Sunday itself has been really enjoyable and manageable, especially until about noon. My own preference would be to do as much of my time as possible Easter weekend and after.

My kids' Spring Break is still first week of April, even though Easter is weeks later. Our district is not willing to change this due to the testing they do every year during this time. So, actually, my thinking is Spring Breaks are going to be more spread out than usual due to the later Easter. I think this year for you to do Disneyland, it would work out better than for usual years where Easter is at it's usual time. The reason I think this is because our Spring Break (bay area) is pretty much always linked with Easter and this year it's not. So, I'm betting you will luck out this coming year. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I agree that's probably true. I should have mentioned that our district is having spring break first week of April too probably for similar reasons. Of the school districts I have heard of that are still linking spring break with Easter this year though, the leaning seems to be toward the week before rather than the week after, and I think that includes some of the SoCal districts.

Thanks! I was planning on the week before, just because we will have more days before than after. If we go later, it will be Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, and only part of Tuesday because we need to fly back Tuesday evening.

Both the week before and the week after are "blacked out" for S Cal annual passes - should this make much difference?

I would guess that more schools are taking the week before Easter or earlier in April for spring break. Our CA state testing usually starts the first week of May, so most public schools will not want their kids out the week right before testing starts. It's a busy time at DLR regardless, but for that reason, I think the week after Easter might be a little better than the week before. My district is off earlier in April, and DW's is off the week before Easter (and we've traditionally always had the week after).
