Dear Dissers, please , please help me :)

Now that Christmas is over I'm looking forward to our 1st ever trip to mew York.

There are 4 of us going - myself, DH, DD14 & DS 11 - on Good Friday for 4 nights. I have a couple of guide books and am 'loosley' planning to wander around seeing whatever takes our fancy (ok MY fancy ;)) at the time.

I was planning to take the family to see TheLion King on Easter Sunday - however the ticket prices are way high over Easter (£900/$1700 for 4!!!) So I need ideas on what to do that day.

Any suggestions would be really, really great.

Thanks a mil.

I don't know if any will be available since it's Easter, but check out the 'TKTS' booth in Times Square the day of the show. They sell discounted tickets for that days' broadway shows if they are not sold out.

Since it will be starting to get warmer out around that time, check out south street seaport in lower manhatten. Also, the meatpacking district is great.

I highly recommed the frommers.com website. There's a section called "Travel Talk" where you can ask/answer questions about New York. People are really good about answering questions and you can look at what others have asked. I found it really helpful when planning my recent trip. Good luck!

try broadway.com - im not sure the tickets should be that much - plus - its a sunday there should be a couple of showings that day.

I can offer suggestions but what is your family into? Arts? Museums? Sites? The City has it all!

On Easter Sunday morning, go to Fifth Avenue and watch people parade in their Easter bonnets. It's not an "official" parade, but there are lots of people strolling around in some pretty amazing bonnets.

My favorite bonnet was a man who had his pet iguana on his bonnet (I don't know how the iguana stayed, but it didn't look unhappy). And the iguana had on a little bonnet!!

Ang1e, sounds like you were quoted scalper prices. Orchestra seats are only $111 plus a fee so that would be around $450 US for your family. The Lion King's official ticket site is www.ticketmaster.com and they are still showing orchestra seats available for that show that day at that price. Have fun!

Thank you for all your replies - I shall definitely check the tcketmaster & broadway.com sites for tickets.

I am planning to see the Easter Parade - other than that I'm not sure. I guess it's more the worry that it's Easter and a Sunday, will tourist places be open that day?

Nickunited - if I knew what my family is into it would make life easier too? They just sort of 'go along' with whatever I say :) Seriously though, I'll be getting tickets for Top of the Rock ( I've read this is better/less busy than the Empire State) and would like to go the Natural History Museum. I'd love to go to the 'arty' museums but I really should tailor this trip more towards the children.

Other than that my plan is to see the city in areas as they are laid out in the guide book so that we aren't traipsing all over the place in one day. We are staying on Broadway at the Novotel and this looks pretty central? Am hoping most places are within walking distance so that we get to see lots rather than sitting in the underground.

NewJersey - I'm glad that you said it will be getting warmer by then :) Will definitely be checking out the South SeaPort area.

Many thanks.

Yea - Broadway is pretty central. You will be able to walk all over from there. Your children will love the Museum of Natural History. Also - we have a Wax Museum they might like and a HUGE Toys R Us toys store.
