going to DL for the first time this summer. I need to understand the early entry better.

1. If you stay off property do you get to use early entry?

2. If you stay on property do you get early entry every day? Or just certain days?

3. Is there an early entry for a certain park every day of the week?

4. Does early entry work for both parks on the same day?

First to clarify, there are 2 options to enter the park early. One is Early Magic Hour and the other is Magic Morning.
EMH is only available to guests staying on property and it alternates each day between parks. I don't know which park opens early on which day, but for example if Disneyland had EMH on a Monday, then CA has EMH on Tuesday, then Disneyland again on Wednesday. To my knowledge, the parks don't both have EMH on the same days. If you stay on property, you can use EMH every day its offered during your stay.

Magic Morning is available to 3 day+ parkhoppers whether you stay on property or not and I believe that you can only use once during your stay.

Hope that helps?

There are two different kinds of early entry: Extra Magic Hour (EMH) and Magic Morning (MM). EHM is only available to guests staying at one of the three on-site hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, and the Grand Californian). As an on-site guest, you have access to EMH every morning of your stay (if offered). MM is available to guests with certain three-day or longer pre-purchased tickets. Each eligible ticket includes only one Magic Morning.

Normally, DL has EMH and MM on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Normally, DCA has EMH on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. DCA does not participate in MM.

Typically, DL and DCA do not have early entry on the same day, but it does happen, usually during the busiest times of the year. For example, during the peak Christmas period, DL and DCA both have early entry (DCA has EMH and DL has EMH & MM) on a daily basis. However, outside of those periods, the parks usually follow a pretty set schedule. On a similar note, the days can change if there is some special event occurring (e.g., marathons) or be cancelled (e.g., there is MM or EMH on the Saturday after the 24-hour day).

During MM & EMH in DL, only select attractions within Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open. During EMH in DCA, select attractions throughout the park open (including RSR and TSMM).

Shoot... I had been reading that wrong on the 3-day or longer prepaid. We will be buying a 5 day pass and had thought we could utilize MM on both Tuesday and Thursday. But we're going to have to pick one or the other, right? Changes my planning a bit, but glad to figure this out ahead of time instead of getting there and having it wrong!

Yes, as far as I know you are only eligible for one MM per ticket, but check the fine print on your ticket to be sure.

Wednesday mornings are the best of any morning in the park, so I would visit DL on Wednesday, get a feel of what the morning is like then come back the next morning with a more specific plan for FL and TMW. On tuesday, you enter DCA with a level entry field.
