My DD almost 6 wants to go to DL as a mommy/daughter trip. I don't want to take her out of school but I also don't want huge crowds (As in 2 hour waits for all rides) and major heat. I was thinking going Mon June 11th(she get out of school the friday before) through Thur Jun 14th.

Is this a terrible time? Is there a better time I can do?

here in Oregon we don't get out of school till the 14th, I don't know about Calif. but I would quess that is an ok time in the summer.

We went that exact time frame last year hoping for the same luck because my school was out a week earlier than the southern ca schools. It was awful. The thing we never even considered was that a TON of local schools must have been doing day fieldtrips because we were constantly getting run over by teenage kids running to and from in their school shirts. There were tons of school groups, church groups, community groups etc... The really bad thing about it was that the kids were just SO rude and there were SO many of them.

We had to keep my kids in the stroller at all times because otherwise they would get knocked down and ran over by teenagers not looking where they were going. It happened once to my 3 year old and twice to my 1.5 year old.
The lines were very long and I think over the course the 4 days we were there we didn't even attempt to stand in the hours long waits that were happening in the afternoon. We were at the gates at opening, got fantasyland done and a few others and that was it. The rest of the day we went back to the hotel for naps and then came back in the evenings for parades and fireworks. Also it was a very hot week. June is pretty unpredictable and the week before we went was great but the week we were there was pretty warm to the point of being uncomfy. This year we are going a month earlier and hoping for a lot less busy times.

It is true that most So Cal schools get out June 14, and it is also true that the first two weeks of June are plagued by Grad Nights, end-of-the-year school field trips and lots of large groups. I am sorry you encountered so many rude kids - I have heard the same thing about the cheerleader groups and such. I would recommend the third or fourth week of June. It will be crowded (and possibly hot, but June is not typically over 80 degrees), but not nearly as busy as July and August. It would be a way to avoid the potential problems reported above.:confused3

We went the same days June 2006 from the 10th to the 14th, Sunday through Thursday.

Sunday was great amazingly, and each day got a little more crowded from there. We get out on the 7th here in Vegas and I knew a lot of people who went that week. Having said that, it is much better than going any other week in the summer as far as I am concerned.

In 2005 we went the previous week from the 5th to the 9th, and it was GREAT!! If I didn't care about DD missing end of year stuff, I would defintely go that week again.

Thanks I was wondering that exact question.
How about the last week of May? Is that a little easier or the same as early june?

Last week of May is usually great as long as you avoid Memorial Day weekend!

We are going that same week as well and I was a bit concerned but this past year I went on Veteran's day weekend and December 29th both of which were SUPER packed days with the park selling out. We have figured out how to go early and get a lot done and get fast passes for later in the day and that works for us.

We are going to be at DL/DCA on the 13th and 14th. I am prepared for it to be crowded but with proper planning it can work.

Good luck and I might see you there! :)

"Two hour waits for all rides" never happens at DLR. On busy days you may see 90 minute waits for the headliners during mid-day, but these usually have FP, and 60 minute wait for certain slow loaders like Dumbo. All of the rides have short lines during the first few hours of the day.

As regarding "mahor heat", it goes without saying it is hotter in the summer than non-summer. On some days it does get very hot at DLR (100 degrees), although more days than not it is the 80's. But IMO there is no reason to worry about the heat if you get a nearby hotel and take an afternoon break for a swim and nap when it is hottest.
