Few quick questions for those who go in early December. Do people swim? Do you need coats/hats/gloves? Is it hit or miss weather wise?

Are the crowds pretty manageable?

Just back and need to plan next trip to get out of this depression!!!

Thanks!

Early December is a GREAT time to go! The weather can be nippy in the mornings -- even in the 40s! -- but it's usually fine by mid-day. Most (all?) of the pools on property are heated, so swimming won't be a problem -- though if the weather is chilly you might think twice about it.

I'd recommend bringing layers -- and, yes, gloves. A couple years ago, we visited during Thanksgiving Week, and took the Segway Tour at Epcot. We have pictures of us wearing down coats on our Segways  :cold:

Otherwise: the decorations are up and the mood is festive -- and the lines are short! Some attractions are walk-ons. Go and enjoy! :mickeyjum

The weather can be different. One year we had high 80's to low 90's another high 50's to low 60's. Plan to watch the weather channel before leaving and decide how to pack from there. We still swam the cold year, though! It's a great time to go.

Oh the weather!! One day it was in the 80s which was great, but most days I wore a tshirt, sweatshirt, and brought a jacket. I remember at Fantasmic I was so FREEZING that I could barely hold the video camera!! It really varies and your best bet is to layer, layer, layer!!!

That is the information I needed to hear - I'm sold on early December!

Thanks - disboards rock :thumbsup2

Ditto everyone on the weather, and the crowds are really low. Mostly
walk-ons. :cool1:

Can't say enough great things about going to WDW in early December!

The only bad thing is that you'll probably have to pack a large variety of clothing. Even if it's warm during the day, it will be cool enough at night for jackets and pants.

What a wonderful 'problem' to have!

December 2005 was my first experience when crowds were that low! We were there 1st-5th of December and I would for sure go back that time of year again! The parks and hotels were beautiful all decked out for Christmas. We had nice weather but it did get chilly at night!! Pack a variety of clothing that's for sure!! It was a very enjoyable vacation!

Have fun!!!

I'm going with my family from December 1 - 5th this year. I can't wait!!!

Everyone warned me this year about January being cooler and to bring layers, etc. I had weather in the 80's the entire time I was there, it was hot and humid. I'm HOPING this trip will actually be cooler! LOL It was too hot in January.

Early Decemer is a great time to go. Dress is layers, early morning can be nippy, and evening parades and fireworks you may be redoing the layers. We wore sweatshirts and light jackets in the evenings. I normally would take a morning dip in the pool 6:00am, then the hot tub, and always had a light rob to put on to get back to the room.

I've gone twice in early December, and once in early January. One time in December and in January it was very warm...80's and 90's. Definitely shorts and swimming weather. But this last December was COLD and RAINY. We had on winter coats and gloves for MVMCP and the kids were still cold. When you track the weather for Orlando as it gets closer to your travel date, remember, 65 degrees in Orlando is NOT the same as 65 degrees some place else. I don't know what it is, but 65 degrees here in Chicago is shorts weather. But in Orlando, it was VERY COLD! Or at least it felt very cold to us. There was a definite chill in the air and we wished it was warmer. But I'd rather have it chilly than hot like in August.

Thanks for starting this thread. I will be going on my very first Disney trip in December from the 1-16 and I'm looking forward to not sweating my butt off for once! Though the thought having to being lots of clothes is not good..

I've gone to WDW in early December about 11 years in a row. The key word really is "Layers". I absolutely refuse to pack a winter coat and gloves. Most of the time lightweight long pants and short sleeved T shirt was perfect.
At evening, a light sweater was fine. HOWEVER - there was a couple of times that for evening I wore my heavy, hooded, zip up sweatshirt. I pulled the sleeves longer to use as " semi-gloves ", and I needed to tie the hood tight. Just once, I used TWO PAIRS of pull on pants at the same time !! I sure looked fatter - but I was pretty comfortable!

I prefer not to even bring shorts. In December it cools down as soon as the sun goes down. I prefer to wear something that will be comfy from morning till night, and that usually is long jeans.
