Early Check-in, then change/cancellation?

If I do early check-in today, then change our reservation or even cancel it (before the 31 day mark) does that affect my points? Would my points go back into their regular account, or would they go into holding (since I had already "checked in")? I'm inclined to check-in early as we will be arriving very early and I hope to get a room a few hours earlier than 4pm (of course, I'm planning on 4pm and won't be upset if we don't get it early... but a girl can hope!) TIA!

On-line check-in has no impact on the cancellation policy for your stay.

All online check-in does is pre-register your information. It is not actually a "check-in".
