Early BW Check-in = Better Chance of Getting Requests?

We're thinking of flying down the evening before our BW ressie starts. We rented points and the DVC member requested a 1st floor room on our behalf. If we stay at the Hyatt the night before and get to BW early on check-in day would that increase the likelyhood of getting our request? I'm thinking that since they don't promise to grant your request that they're 'first come, first served' and that arriving early would help. Any ideas?

Thanks,

It can't hurt to arrive early and ask, but in my experience (mutiple BWV stays since 1999), the BWV do not use the "room ready" method to assign rooms. They pre-assign pretty much everything all the time.

That said, I've never objected to a room assignment so I don't know what they do for those who ask nicely. I did witness a guest meltdown once, though. She didn't get what she wanted. (Good thing, too. I could not believe an adult would act like that in private, let alone in public). :scared1:

I'm here now in a standard view 1 bedroom. The weather is just about perfect, crowds are light and everything is gorgeous!

We vacation several times per year and usually have two or three split stays each vacation. Last year I checked in 11 times.

When DVC added on-line check in, they started a no room change policy. It doesn't matter if you are using on-line check in or not, the Front Desk Cast Members are instructed to not change rooms.

Some resorts seem to be more adamant about the policy. BLT told me that room changes are not allowed. AKV Kidani tried to bill us for a room change fee because entered our room before finding out the our Savanna view room was really a view of the pool.

Wouldn't the online checkin system defeat this plan, since you are entered in the queue of those waiting for rooms without ever going to the resort physically?

I called the hotel a few days before we arrived and I got exactly what I wanted at BWV 2 weeks ago (fantastic studio in a perfect location for us).

DVC has requested that members do not call or fax the resort directly. Any requests should be made through member services.

Usually rooms are pre-assigned at BWV and cannot be changed but one time I did check-in at 10:00am (stayed the night before at BW Inn) and they told me we were assigned to a first floor standard view room. I had requested a good fireworks view (that was a mistake, too vague). I asked if they had anything else and they were able to find me a 4th floor room that turned out to be perfect.

I don't think that first floor requests are popular making it more likely that you'll get what you want (most people want higher floors for potential fireworks views). Personally, I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks for the replies. One of the purposes of getting there the night before is to capture the whole first day so we'll be going ahead with the plan even if it doesn't get our request honored. Acually, this will be our 4th BW stay, the first time we took what came and got the 3rd floor facing the main entrance, the second we requested, and got, the first floor, same orientation and last time we didn't get the 1st we asked for.

I'm not sure how consistent this is. When we checked into BLT in late January, we had been assigned a room on the inside of the C. We asked if there was anything available on the outside and were able to get that. Of course, if it couldn't be changed we wouldn't have had a meltdown about it!! Sometimes your requests can be accommodated; sometimes they can't.

The only time we had a request at BWV we checked in early, and we had friends already there and asked if it would be possible to be somewhat close, like the same floor. They were able to give us a room just two down from our friends. Good luck!

What type view do you have booked? I've had a first floor standard, overlooking the bus stop area, with the main entrance off to the left, and a first floor preferred that opened to the quiet pool beside the Community Hall.

We've got a Standard View Studio, low end of the totum pole, supposedly there are a limited number of these which is why we booked 11 months out. We've faced the main entrance all 3 previous trips, we were on your left as you drive up to the main doors, once on the ground floor, twice on upper floors, hopefull 1st floor next March.
