Earlier entry at the parks

I'm going to Orlando in December (staying at All star sports) and on our first day going to Universal (Dec 15th), we're going by cab or bus (my parents will arrive that day and meet us after lunch at IoA so we'll have a car on the way back) and I'm not sure that we can get there much earlier than 9am (official opening time).

I've read that sometimes they open their gates before this opening time. How does it work? Does it happen everyday (or often)?

They don't open *that* much earlier than 9am. Usually it's between 845-855a if they open early.

nice! I'll try to arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled time. It should be low crowds due to the season (mid December), so I doubt that they'll open it much earlier if earlier at all!
