My DD6 is afraid of loud noises and we are NEVER able to stay for fireworks. I've seen tips here about using earplugs for scary rides, etc. What type of ear plugs do you use for your child in WDW?

Can't say what to use for a child in that situation but I sleep with ear plugs every night because I'm such a light sleeper. I have tried different kinds and I found some that I really like. They are a soft clay that you can form to the ear. They stay in really well and seal your ear so the loud noises are cut out. I got them at a local pharmacy.

I don't know how small they come, but I know there are some soft ones sold at Home Depot with a string attaching them to each other, so if one falls out, it's still attached to the other with the safety string.

My son is very sensitive to noises and he finds a lot of comfort with his own MP3 player.....we've downloaded Disney songs on it and he loves it!! He's only 6 and can't operate it himself, so we set it up for him then push the "hold" button so that the buttons can't be pushed and changed.

I have small ear canals (the kids Ear Planes fit me, the adults are too big) and find the foam ear plugs uncomfortable.

I have custom fitted musicians ear plugs, but they are prohibitive in cost for a child, and because a mold needs to be made of your ear canal down to the ear drum, I'm not sure an audiologist would even fit an child. Use the link in my previous post for your best option for kids noise reduction and hearing protection.

My DD7 has used a one piece knit stretchy headband for years at DW. It's something you'd use in cold weather but if you can't find one in stores now that Spring is here you may be able to find an everyday one piece wide headband that would work. Hers is just enough thickness to muffle the noise but still allow her to enjoy the attraction.

I'm newly diagnosed with Tinnitus and will check out the earplugs in the above link for our trip this May.

As an adult you'll MUCH prefer Muscians Ear plugs. I LOVE them! They are small enough to fit in the coin pocket of your jeans, but provide up to 25 Db in sound reduction--you choose how much you want reduced with the audiologist. Most health insurance will pay for the doctors appointment, the ear plugs are $75 +/- and will last forever for the average user.

This is what we've used, and they are great! I highly recommend them. The kids just wear them around their necks when we think it may get loud, and they insert them themselves when they want/need to. They have a graduated tip, so they can't be pushed in too far. Plus, they come in its own little plastic case, so it's very easy to store them inbetween times.

The kids even watch the fireworks now without dreading the noise.

When we were there last, my DD, then 4, was scared of the shows because of the volume. We bought a pair of mouldable silicone ear plugs from the store at POR, and they worked great! They're meant for swimming, but they're the only type of ear plugs she doesn't mind keeping in, and they may have been the best $4 I spent on that trip! :thumbsup2 Without them, she buried her head against me and sort of whimpered through A Bug's Life; with them, she wasn't even scared/upset during Honey I Shrunk The Audience. She still wears the same type for movies and fireworks and anything else that is extraordinarily loud.

Thanks everyone -- we found the ones with the string at Lowe's and I think they will be perfect. Looking forward to the fireworks at last!

We had the same problem with our son on the last WDW trip so this trip we are trying the earplug trick in a couple weeks when we go back. I'm a regular earplug user so I'm setting him up with a few sets of my favorites - EAR Push-Ins. They are soft foam, but have a plastic post that you grap to put in and take out - easier with my big fingers and his little ears. No rolling. No strings.
