Hi everyone.

I had a blocked ear last week, and since Sunday it's been getting more painful and itchy. Because of the silly bank holiday my doctor was all booked up Tuesday, but I finally got an appt this morning.

My Dr said it's a pretty nasty infection, and I have antibitocs for it now.

Ironically, the pain wasn't that bad, it was more mega itchy and full feeling, but in the last 3 or 4 hours it's just getting loads more painful and now moving my jaw is even horrible to do.

I know that hopefully by the morning the medicine should have started working, and I've taken painkillers, but any pain relief advice to help now? I'm going spare!

Ouch poor you, my Ds used to suffer terribly with ear aches, he used to find a water bottle filled with warm water popped in a pillow case against his ear used to help ease the pain.

I hope your antiboitics kick in soon

:) Thanks Rachel.

I've been out for a few hours driving here there and everywhere, and before I left I had a quick online search, thanks for the heat advice I'll try it! :)

A website said that chewing gum (especially one with Xylotol) can help. So I gave it a go, and it super hurt at first because my jaw was so sore and stiff, but it really helped loosen it up and make my ear feel less pressure-ry(?) so maybe recommend that to your DS one time as well. :)

Fingers crossed I sleep OK (was a bit of a struggle last night but I'm getting some soluble panadol down me as we speak) and theres a big improvement by morning.

Hope its a lot less painful now :goodvibes
Its a horrible thing to suffer with, hope your feeling better soon :wizard:

Thanks Jeanette. It feels a bit less swollen today, but a lot more tender. Hopefully once I'm up and about more and have been brave enough to have some breasfast it might ease off a bit.

DS used to suffer a lot with ear infections. Dr recommended steam inhallation (i.e. leaning over a bowl of steaming water with towel over his head) and that seemed to give him a little relief.

I think a lot of people underestimate just how painful an ear infection can be - I hope yours clears up soon.

Hopefully the anti biotics are helping now, remember to finish the course even if you feel better
