Aww, come on, LSUfan! Today is a day of much celebration as we have announced the launch of the SEC Network (which, I might add, already has a national carrier 16 months prior to the launch) which will bring us all much money. Can we put aside the rivalries just for today and marvel at how great that is? Perhaps we should also put on For The Love of Money by O'Jays.;)

I do actually have a question for you, though. Prior to joining the SEC, it was always nice to see how yall always pulled for one another. Your post makes me question that. In the National Championship game this year, did you cheer for Notre Dame or Bama?

Wow, this thread has taken a major turn. This is a much better topic, IMO. I think fans in all major conferences pull for all teams, except their biggest rival(s). Obviously, I'm a UNC Tar Heels fan. I would pull for Duke & al Qaeda to destroy each other. :rotfl: I'm sure there were a lot of SEC fans pulling for Notre Dame. Probably, the vast majority of them. You won't find too many Tennessee Vols fans in Alabama either. Most people in the SEC hate Alabama football, because they're consistently at the top. The Florida Gators aren't real popular at other schools in football or basketball. ;) The others schools always root for the weaker teams in all conferences. Everybody wants the big dogs to fall.

Yeah, see, that wasn't how things were in the Big XII. No one really cheered for their conference mates unless it was the national championship game and even then, only if it was certain teams. Then again, there is a good reason that the Big XII is not as.... steady, for lack of a better term, than some of the other conferences. And there is one team in particular who the other teams are really distrustful of.

Edit: Actually, I guess that's really not fair. Teams like Kansas State were good people and they would cheer for just about everyone, except for KU. OSU was the same way but with OU being the team that they didn't cheer for. Many, though, didn't really care about the other teams in their conference. And I do stand by my comment about the one team in particular that no one really trusts and most believe that they would even sell their own mother into slavery if they thought it would get them ahead.

Honestly, my rooting interest is to always benefit LSU. It isn't Bama that I "despise", it's anything that makes it harder for LSU.

That being said, I rooted for Notre Dame knowing Bama would crush them.

I mean, I like when the SEC does well as it helps the overall image of the sport and continues to help recruiting. Look how many SEC players where just drafted. The better you are, the more money you get, the more prestige, the better recruits, etc. BUT, I also understand that Saban knows how fertile the recruiting grounds are in Louisiana and the more successful Bama is, the harder it is for LSU to recruit against them.

It has noting to do with Saban whatsoever...I had the same feeling towards Forida in the mid to late 90's and USC in the early 00's (although we didn't have too many head to head recruiting battles.)

Now Ole Mrs, I hate them for a different reason all together and if they were 0-12 the only reason I would be upset is that they couldn't go 0-13.

I think what sets the SEC apart is they pretty much pave the road for the rest of the country. Before any other conference understood the benefits each school gets as the conference does better itself, it was understood and believed in the south.

This is a good read if anyone is interested.

I'm sure that DirecTV, Dish, and Time Warner aren't far behind. Longhorn Network, for comparison, didn't have a "national" carrier until a year AFTER they launched. SEC Network will be just fine and I'm sure all 14 of us will be doing the naked money dance before too long.:thumbsup2

I LOVED being in the SEC this year. It's amazing what it did for our playing! I have no doubt that we kicked the snot out of OU as badly as we did because we had teams like LSU, Bama, and Florida helping us prepare. Iron sharpens iron and I have no doubt that being in the top conference is the way to go. Then again, our major rival is in another conference. If they ever joined the SEC, I'd likely never cheer for them... not that I see them ever joining.
