Eagle Scout Ceremony Help

Ok Dissers. I need your help.

I have to find a royal/navy blue pillar candle for my son's eagle ceremony. I can find red and white, but not blue. I have been everywhere from dollar stores to department stores, grocery stores and even candle stores.

I think I will have to order online. I don't know a reliable candle store online other than Yankee. Can anyone help? I need in in 2 weeks.

Been in your shoes -My Dh and I handle all the Eagles COH ceremonies for our troop and after having to switch candles many times we now just go with R/W/B tapirs or federal styles-i just googled what you need and found 2 that look promising-

Try both and call them to see if they can speed things up for you

Another congrats to your son! My son is millimeters from Life, fingers crossed he goes all the way.

I just did a quick google and Kmart's website shows a navy colored one- hopefully available in store as well?

Or how about Bed/Bath/Beyond, maybe? Hallmark stores?

Note to self, keep eye out now for blue candles for DS's ceremony!

it's a great accomplishment. Oldest DS is a star scout and when I think of all the work he has still to accomplish .. my other two are cubscouts. My older brother is an Eagle Scout (he's 44) and he says that to this day it's the only accomplishment from before College that he still leaves on his resume and that still gets comments in interviews.

Are you handy/crafty at all?

You could try the local craft store. Sometimes they have the stuff to make candles or you could maybe get blue wax and cover a white pillar.

My fourth son is working on his project, as well! It's sooo much work!

My older three have loved being able to put "Eagle Scout" on all kinds of applications. My second son was told that Eagle Scout is the only thing from high school that you can take with you when applying to law school.

We have a man at our church who often tells what an asset his Eagle was to him in dentistry school. It "looked good" to have on his application, but he says it was helped him tremendously sitting for his dentistry boards. Everyone else around him was nervous. He said he'd sat through so many boards as a teen on his way to Eagle, though, it was a piece of cake.

Mercifully, this fine man is also one of the advisors for the religious emblem award. I tell him to keep on giving these guys reasons to keep pushing towards Eagle!

Congratulations to your son on his great accomplishment. I know what hard work and how time-consuming it is reaching this point. But so worth it!!!

My ds14 is working on his Eagle Scout project this summer. He's currently at a High Adventure Camp this week though.

I'm looking forward to the day I can plan his ceremony!!! Congrats!!!!!!

My son is in his 1st year of Boy Scouts. He has just earned his 2nd Class. He is very determined to earn his Eagle. I know he can do it. Hearing about all of you Disney people with kids who have their Eagle is great. Congratulations to all with sons who have earned their Eagle. I my need one of you alls help when it comes time for the planning the ceremony and what I need to do.

Congratulations to your son, that is a great accomplishment. My son had his eagle project outlined and because he was born in Aug and older than the rest of his classmates he had approval to go over his 18th birthday. BUT... the kids in his high school found out he was in scouts and made such fun of him that he quit. He regrets it now but back then he didn't want to be out of the crowd.
He is now a Marine though, so I am still very proud of him.

As to the candle, if you go to Michaels they have an additive that you mix with regular acrylic paint that you can paint onto candles. I have painted different designs on candles with this additive. It makes the paint a bit waxy and it won't flame up when the candle burns down. I don't have any in the house so I can't tell you the name but I got mine near the paints. I do remember seeing it over by the candles too so check both.
If someone is enough of an artist you might be able to paint the Eagle badge onto the navy blue candle.

Thanks to all of you for such kind words. We are very proud of him. He worked very hard and had to overcome some teasing in high school. During his graduation ceremony the superintendent spoke about all the graduating eagle scouts by name (all 3) in her speech and it was a very moving and proud moment for my DS and our family.

Planning the ceremony has been kind of like planning a reception. There are about 185 people invited and letters have been sent to the president, chief justice, governor etc. It's a lot more work than I ever thought it was. But totally worth it.

Thanks for the candle tips. I am trying a couple of places tomorrow. If I don't find one I will paint one blue or order online.

This is the best board out there. I have gotten so many saving tips and ideas.

Congrats to your DS!!! Our DS got his in 2008 & we were so proud! I got our candles from Hobby Lobby after looking at several stores including a candle store. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I received my candles in the mail today from Barn Loft. All set for the eagle ceremony.
