Wondering what sites you use to download your e-books from? I will be using a Sony Reader and obviously would prefer Free downloads but interested in ones that you purchase as well. Thanks for any advice!

You can find several free e-books at Project Gutenberg. Most of them are classics that are not copyrighted any longer, but they may have other options as well. As far as the Sony e-book reader, I believe you can download materials from Barnes & Noble and Borders, but Sony has a site as well, I believe.

Many libraries have E-Books. Call your local one and inquire.

In regards to library downloads...how does this work? Do you actually go to the library or can it all be done online? Does the file expire somehow like a library bk would? I know my local system offers this option, just don't know the details yet. Your insight is appreciated.

Ebooks from the library expire after a certain amount of days(different everywhere)(7 days here in NYC)

Actually it's up to 21 days at the NY Public Library system. You can set if for less that 21 days, but 21 days is the max.

I love it. The book gets "returned" to the library. (That basically means people can't open the book file anymore and can simply delete it. I haven't had an overdue fine in ages. :cool1:

For a Sony you'll mostly be interested in ePub format.
Shortcovers.com ... prices are a little high but they issue alot of coupon codes. Right now there's 2 available for $2 off a book. There's also a survey on their site that if you complete you'll get a code for 15% off a book. Google Shortcovers coupon and you'll find some more.

Diesel-ebooks has a code out for 15% off every title until Dec 1st. It's on their front page.

BooksonBoard.com, rarely has a code but their prices are usually cheaper than the Sony bookstore.

For library books etc you are first going to need Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. You check out your books to your computer and then move them over to your eReader.

Barnes and Noble I think eventually. Right now I believe they are using eReader format but they say they're switching over to ePub soon.

I've recently started using our library's downloads -- it's great!! Overdrive has recorded books (expires within 7 or 14 days). They also have (www.mymediamall.net), which allows me to download books to my PC (up to 5 total--books and recordings--at a time). Not sure how this would translate to the Sony reader, but I think it works (maybe it would download directly to the reader?). The books are good for 21 days, and you can return them when you're done. The recordings -- you have to let them expire.

This is the reason I would probably choose the Sony eReader over the Kindle, because without stripping Kindle's software, you can't read library books on it.
