My son is selling a lot of his toys for our "mystery" vacation. Do I mention in the auction that he is selling these to get funds for Disney or do I just straight list it? Would it make a difference?

Thanks!

I would not even mention why. Just list it. I have sold a few items on ebay.
I'm fairly new to the selling part of it but no one needs to know why you are
selling it. :earsgirl:

Being a 'softy' I'd probably bid more but not everyone is as soft ;-)

Just list the attributes. I doubt many people would care.

Then again, I often wonder why people are selling certain items (like, is it broken, etc). You could always just add a line. Great condition, works fine, selling to make $$ for vacation - that's it.

Guess I wasn't much help huh :confused3

I would just list it without the "whys"...most people really don't care why you're selling an item. I know that's has nothing to with why I bid or don't bid and if anyone puts that in their auctions, I typically skip over it.

I am also a softie! It gives the listing a bit of personalization. Makes a more intresting ad. Although I would list the facts about the product 1st so the people not wanting the info the option not to read it. :)

Thanks everyone. I'm off to try and list a few things while the listing fees are low, wish me luck!

It wouldn't make a difference to me as a buyer, and it might even annoy potential buyers who search for "Disney" and find that you're not actually selling Disney items (unless, of course, these are Disney toys your son is selling). Just a thought.

Have you thought about creating a ME page? Besides my TOS, I put my reasons for selling on my ME page.

Count me as one who would "roll their eyes" if I say someone mentioned that their son was selling their toys to make money for a vacation. I would even go as much to think "yeah right."

Just list the items, the condition, any flaws etc. Leave out the unnecessary things like selling to raise vacation money.

I agree, unless the profit is going to a charity, I could care less why someone is selling their stuff.

It really doesn't matter to me whether someone lists why they are selling it or not and unless it is for charity it wouldn't make me bid more or less. Unfortunately (not aimed at you OP) many people think nothing of making up a sob story if they think it would help their auctions so I take that info with a "grain of salt" attitude anyway.

However, I currently have a piece of animation artwork up for auction and in addition to the one question that I answered on my auction (& obviously most people aren't reading), I'm getting hit with a couple of questions each day about why I'm selling it and have been asked that question plenty of times in the past. I guess some people care why, but most just care how much! :)
