I thought I'd ask you creative folks :) about dyeing lampshades. Anyone ever do it? I have two white ones, and I redecorated the living room, and basically want the same style lampshades, but I'd like them a color...a beige, or gold-ish, or even tea stained. I read a little online about the possibility of the hot dye bath melting the glue holding on the trim. I guess if that happens, I'll just chuck them and buy new ones, but I'd at least like to give it a shot.

Or maybe I should do some sort of painting on them? Fabric paint???

They're 6" across the top, 14 across the bottom, and 11 up/down. I think they'd fit in our lobster pot.

Any suggestions? I'm kind of lost, and not even sure what options exist.

I plan to spray paint the base, but I haven't decided on that color yet...perhaps a hammered metal. :confused3

TIA :)

Well, like you said, if they fall apart, what have you lost? I was thinking some sort of dip.... like a tea dye. They won't be going into the washer, so if they are not color fast, who really cares. The biggest problem might be fading from the sun.

If you try fabric paint, I would water it down and paint it on. But it could come out streaky.

Well... no real helpful suggestions from me! But I'd love to hear what you attempt and how it comes out!.............P
