We will be going to Disney World at the end of April 2018 and will be staying at AKL Jambo renting DVC points. Planning ADRs and determining whether or not to get the DxDP or not. I know that the value is not always there for the DDPs and that it is often way too much food for some. So, I looked at what I am hoping we will get for ADRs and planning out our schedules. Also thinking about how we dined on our trip last year (we had free dining, regular plan)....ended up paying OOP for some meals and ended up with some extra QS credits (which we used for snacks). We definitely prefer TS over QS.

What I did was list out all the restaurants I am planning and the costs of what we would likely order. On average per meal, we would probably get one appetizer, 2 desserts, 2 adult entrees and 2 child entrees, plus milks for the kids and probably one alcoholic beverage for each adult (except for some meals, like some breakfasts). So, less than what we could get using the DxDP. Factoring all of this in to the equation plus tax, even assuming NO SNACKS, the total comes to $2,233 for the week for two adults, two kids. The total cost of DxDP would be $2,185.94 and assuming we ate at the places I figured, we would still have 8 more credits with the DxDP.

What am I missing? Seems like a good deal for us.

ADRs I am planning:

CA Grill
Sanaa
Tusker House
Jiko
Rose & Crown
Sci-Fi
Citrico's
Boma
Raglan Rd
Kona
Be Our Guest
Chef Mickey's
Beaches & Cream
Ohana
Whispering Canyon
Geyser Point

Thanks for any insight!

If I did the math right, it looks like you're staying 7 nights and you have 19 credits used. As long as you did your math right on what you might order, I'd say you're not missing anything. You have 2 kids which make out like bandits on just about any plan, but especially the DxDDP. You're also drinking alcohol, so as long as the drinks you want are covered by the plan, you wouldn't have any OOP costs.

Thanks! Yes, we are staying 7 nights and I did double-check my math on what we would likely order. For alcohol, I mostly factored in the OOP cost for a mixed drink or glass of wine. I am sure we would be fine with having what was covered on the DDP, though I am interested to see if anyone knows what drinks are not allowed for the DDP.

Are your kids under 10? Just checking if they are considered children under Disney's rules. Regardless, the DXDP will be a great deal for you. Under the DXDP, the value you must spend to breakeven on each credit is less then the reg plan. Therefore, it is easy to save more $ than the reg plan if you are eating all TS meals. In addition, if the credits are still pooled between kids and adults, your kids can order adult entrees. The only drawback we found when we used it was the exhorbitant amount spent on tips and, in the risk of sounding cliche, it was too much food. But, we'd do it again given the opportunity!

Yes, the tips will definitely be high for either option!! Kids will be 4 and 7. Thanks for your feedback!

The DxDDP is actually the easiest plan to save money with if you prefer TS over QS and like appetizers. I do the math from scratch for every trip and find we save between 10-15% - roughly the equivalent of getting our mugs and all of our snacks for free - even now that 2 of my 3 kids are Disney adults.

No one knows yet what will or won't be allowed for the new alcohol entitlement. Until January rolls around and people start reporting back on their experiences, that will probably remain a mystery.
