This is the first time we are using a dining plan. I am taking my 2 kids and I to Disney in August (1 adult 2 kids). We have the dxddp. My son is a big eater and my daughter is a bird. I had a question about the appetizers. Are we allowed to order an appetizer labeled as "for two"? Like at Sanaa, can we get the bread service with all the sauces or the sampler for two? Are there any exclusions? Can a child order an adult app? Is it the same for desserts too? Can you get the trios or samplers? In case the restaurant won't let my son order an adult meal, I want to be able to order bigger apps or desserts to make sure he gets enough. Thanks for all the help!

I'm assuming both kids are Disney kids meaning 9 or under?

You can only order appetizers for two when that is the only appetizer for two of you. If your kids have to order from the kids' menu...you won't be able to get one.

There are reportedly some changes to the dining plans which may include kids on the Deluxe Plan being able to order off the adult menu. There was a report from one person who asked about this at every restaurant he went to and some places the kids could order from the adult menu, but others they could not. There is unfortunately no definite answer at the moment.

You would probably do best by eating at buffets/AYCTE meals or upgrading your son to an adult if you want to be sure that he has lots to eat. Or consider cancelling the plan and pay OOP...

Yes, both kids are Disney kids, but my 9 year old eats like a 15 year old! I guess it's because he is so tall (daddy's 6'3") but he is still super thin! I don't mind the buffets, it's just hard by myself with the 2 little ones. I can't leave the 5 year old at the table alone so we all have to get up together. I do have some booked but their favorite is Sanaa. And this time they want to try Teppan Edo. Just trying to plan ahead. I may have to save an extra snack credit those days for him if we can't get the bigger app. Thanks for your help!

No problem! I wish there was a definite answer for you. Maybe the official policy will be clarified before your trip.

I also forgot to mention you can definitely order the trios and samplers without a problem as long as they don't say "for two". I understand buffets being difficult with kids. Unless you have a very large appetite, I would imagine sharing your adult-size courses with him would work if he can't order off the adult menu; those 3-course meals can add up quickly! (Hopefully you like the same things!) Add the 2 snacks a night and he definitely shouldn't go hungry!

I did the deluxe dining plan with my two kids last summer and I was in a similar situation. At sit down meals I would let DS have my appetizer or dessert and he would sometimes finish DD's meal too. But there is much going on, DS didn't eat nearly as much as he usually does!
