We are planning on adding the DxDDP to our DVC reservation and using some of the credits for the Polynesian Luau. When I book the luau, I know they require a credit card for payment. If I am using DDP credits, will they still charge the card, or just "hold" it in case of cancellation?

Thanks.

I'm actually wondering the same exact thing for Cinderella's Table. I know that Cindy's Table requires pre-payment, but I'm thinking that's what the dining plan is!

When you make the reservation, call (don't do it online) and note that you are on the dining plan. You CAN do it online if you input a room reservation number with dining plan already attached to the room reservation, but chances are it will charge you whether you are on a dining plan or not.

If you get a human to do it OR the computer system accepts your dining plan, you should have to give a credit card number for guarantee only, not be charged for the entire meal. Online, it doesn't always work.

If you do not already have a dining plan on your room reservation at the time you try to book a prepaid meal, it is possible you'd have to pay in full anyway.

I booked a couple online that required a credit card, but I've never been charged. One was Fantasmic, but I can't remember what the other one was. I was logged into my account with the room reservation and DDP attached though.

I am on the DDP and last week I booked Akershus on-line. I booked it just like any other reservation except I did have to provide a credit card number at the end. It did not ask me for a room reservation or DDP information. As long as you show up at the restaurant you should not be charged and then they will ask if you are on the DDP or not. I have done this many times and have never had my card charged.

I have the dining plan on my reservation and booked Akershus and CRT (both require a CC#) I wasnt charged for either. So they must just hold it in case you no show.

Akershus! That was the other one that I booked. I guess with all 3 of us having the same experience, this one should definitely be safe.

I'm trying to earn enough rewards to pay for my DDP so I would like to wait as long as possible before adding it to my reservation. But, since I need to book some ADR's 180 days in advance (which will be this Friday!), I won't have the DxDP added yet.

So, let's say that they are going to charge my credit card when I make the reservations, when will they "reverse" the charge or issue a credit? Could I get it done when I add the DxDDP? I really don't have the money available yet but I would still like to secure the reservations.

I completely understand charging for no-shows, but I don't see why they need to have FULL payment six months in advance:confused3. It seems like a big hassle on both ends if someone decides to cancel. Then they have to deal with refunds.

Thanks for all the info!

Akershus and the Fantasmic package are never prepaid reservations. They are strictly credit card hold.

Be VERY careful booking CRT or dinner shows online with a dining plan, sometimes it works and sometimes it wants to charge you in full. Make sure you check on what it is charging your before you confirm that you want to book it.

CRT is prepaid in full because Disney wanted to make it more difficult for third parties to broker the reservations - awhile back there was a group on the Internet that did just that - booked up as many reservations as possible and then handed them out (by changing the name on the reservation) to whoever sent them the best story as to why they deserved one. This is probably also the reason why Disney no longer allows name changes on restaurant reservations.

By most reports, if you pay in full and then switch to DDP, there is one way to get an immediate refund - cancel the paid in full reservation and make a new one as a DDP user. If you can't get a new one, you would be keeping the current reservation and waiting to get refunded until you arrive at CRT or pick up your dinner show tickets.

If you don't have a DDP already on your reservation, you don't have much choice but to try and make the reservation by phone, because the online system has to recognize that you have a dining plan on your room reservation. As to whether the phone agent will allow you to book as a dining plan user when you don't actually have the dining plan yet, you would have to ask when you call.

I am on the dxdp. Is there some kind of confirmation number that I give them, other than my cc #? thanks

To answer both of these, you do have to call that is correctm and when you do even if you have your dinning plan already payed for you still have to give your credit card number for them to hold the ressie, no big deal.....:thumbsup2 We just had to do this same thing for CRT...worked like a charm nothing was ever charged to my card.<------hope this helps

I want to verify that the Luau IS a 90-day reservation, not a 180-day reservation, correct?

I will be OK then to wait until the 90-day mark to add my DxDP. As long as Akershus is not a prepay reservation, I should be OK.

Thanks for all the info!

Everything is a 180 day reservation, including the Luau.

You may be asked to give your resort reservation number, if you are booking online you will definitely have to put in your resort reservation number, that is how it is supposed to know you are on the dining plan.

Thanks for all the info! I made my reservations online this morning with no hu-hu. I signed in with my confirmation number and only had to use a CC# to hold Hoop-de-Doo, Cinderella's Table, and Akerhaus.

One note though for the dinner shows. Make sure you are aware which category seating you are allowed with your dining plan. I actually ended up PAYING for my Hoop-de-Doo tickets before I realized that it defaulted to Category 1 seating which is NOT covered under the Deluxe Dining Plan. Doh! I had to cancel the ressie and re-book. :rolleyes2

I was also pleasantly surprised that I could book for more people than are on our plan. We're traveling with another family and had a few meals we planned on eating together. I made the reservations for all of us under my DDP number with no issues!

The restaurant reservation system does not care how many people are on your room reservation. You can always make reservations for however many people you wish. If Disney let you make restaurant reservations only for your traveling party, they would get many complaints from guests who wanted to have Grandma and Grandpa who live in Orlando join them for dinner. Thank goodness they seem to be aware of that.

Your guests will need to pay OOP (or use their own key card if they have their own dining plan) for those meals when you arrive.

Akershus is NOT prepaid. Whether you are on a dining plan or not, you will give only a credit card hold for this reservation.

Back when I made reservations for our 9/10 trip and in December when I made reservations for our upcoming May trip I was charged for CRT even though I had the dining plan. Both times I simply called the dining # and gave them my info (dinner reservation #, trip reservation #, etc.) and they were able to switch it to the dining plan and give me a refund on my credit card.
