So, just found out the exciting news about my pregnancy. I'm only about 5 weeks now, so will be about 10-12 when we get there at the end of Sept. I've been reading alot on here about skipping the thrill rides when you're pregnant, but most people were 6-8 months. Anyone go when they're only 2-3 months? Did you go on the rides? My doctor said most rides should be ok (including some rollercoasters), just avoid the ones with high G-force....

Any thoughts?

We went down with a couple who didn't know they were about 5-6 weeks pregnant. They found out when they got back.
They didn't skip attractions and everything was perfectly fine.
If it makes you feel uncomfortable, skip it.
That said, I'm no doctor. But I would absolutely skip Mission:Space due to the Gs.
Just my completely unprofessional musings...

Oh, and congratulations!

Congratulations! We just went with my sister and her dh (actually, for their wedding, lol) and she was about 6 or 7 weeks while we were there. She didn't ride any of the roller coasters, or things like Star Tours, anything very jerky or bumpy. She also didn't do anything with G-forces.

I know I am not a DR but the first trimester is one of the most critical. If something is to go wrong this is most likly when it will happen. Again I am not a DR, I would skip, mission space, rollar coasters, tot...ect. Anything that has a warning, I would skip it. I would rather be safe then sorry. Disney will be there and the rides can be done another time, jmo! Have fun and congratulations

Congrats!!! I found out I was pregnant in May, so when we go in 12 days (and counting) I'll be 19 weeks. I first saw my DR at 8 weeks and told her I was going. She told me to skip any coasters, bumpy or jerky rides - so I'm skipping most of the major ones. From what I've read, the main ones to skip at MK are all three mountains, EPCOT would be Mission Space, Test Track and Maelstrom, MGM would be Star Tours, Body Wars, Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster, and Animal Kingdom would be Kilimanjaro Safari, Dinosaur and Kali River Rapids. I know that sounds like a lot, but it really isn't when you consider all the other rides and shows there are to enjoy. Just use common sense - don't get on fast, bumpy, or g-force and read the warning signs. Disneymommie is right - the first trimester is the most critical so I wouldn't chance it and that baby will be well worth skipping a coaster for!! - you can go back later when you're not pregnant and ride them all!! Have lots of fun!

I went when I was about 10 weeks along. I skipped all the ones everyone else has mentioned. I found the parks to be tiring enough without the wild rides during that first trimester. Enjoy the shopping and pick up something for the new little one instead! :goodvibes Also, drink lots of water and enjoy an extra :mickeybar or 2! Congratulations!!!

I went last summer to DL and I was about 6 weeks along and I knew it. I skipped ToT and Indiana Jones, Star Tours, but I did go on Splash Mountain and all was fine. I can't say I would tell anyone else to do it though if they had any reservations at all about it. I guess I just thought that car rides & the plane ride down there where bumpier at times than Splash Mtn. JMHO. I REALLY wanted to go on ToT though; I hadn't been on it yet at Ca Adventure and I stood there longingly starting at it while DH and DS7 went on it...oh well, next time.

PLEASE don't go on any thrill rides at all. I went to WDW many years ago at just a couple months pregnant, took a chance on a thrill ride and miscarried. It was hard enough to miscarry, but have it happen on vacation AND know it's probably your own stupid fault - it's not worth it.

Go, have fun, enjoy yourself, but stick to the slow stuff. :flower:

Hello Canada......First of all, ask your doctor and follow his advice. I am an ob nurse with 25 years of experience. I have found that if you are going to miscarry....you will miscarry. Doing or not doing something is really never the reason. If it happens, and it did with my first pregnancy, you beat yourself up about what you should or should not have done, but usually it was going to happen no matter what. I went to DisneyLand when I was 10 weeks pregnant with my first son. My ob had said that it was fine to ride what ever I wanted. They did not have any g force rides then, but I rode all the rollercoasters. I had miscarried my first pregnancy and this was my second. My ds is now 23 years old healthy, happy and of course loves rollercoasters and WDW :teeth: Enjoy the pregnancy, it really goes by too fast. Follow your doctors advice, rest and drink plenty of water. Have a great time. We are going Sept 28th-Oct 3rd. When are you there? :wave2:

Thanks for all the input. As excited as I am about the pregnancy, the timing's not the greatest (given our trip). Who would've thought it would only take 2 weeks to get pregnant?

Anyways, I'll have to check again with my doctor before we leave to clarify what rides are out of the question (we're there Sept 24 to Oct 4 and I have an appt right before that). From what I remember from Disneyland last year, pretty much every ride has some kind of a warning for pregnant women (at least all the ones that we like to go on - DH and DD10).

I agree with OBjan if something gonna happen it gonna happen go enjoy tho I might skip the Gforce rides. But then I don't do those anyway.

Being preggers never stopped me from doing anything that I wanted to do or needed to do. 28 yrs ago I rode roller coasters bumper cars you name it 7 months preggers. Always rode on the harley the full 9 months as well. The oldest one still had a hardtail meaning NO SHOCKs and my seat was a peepad only 1/2 inch thick.

BTW I fell on ice while preggers 1st trimester baby was fine but I busted my tailbone.
I fell out back door and down a flight of stairs at 8 months baby was fine but I broke all my toes on right foot. No it did not throw me into labor.

Personally - I was 32 weeks so of course I skipped all the rides with warning - except Kilamanjaro Safaris. However I think the real question is not will riding the rides cause you to miscarry or have any other problems - for me it would be how would I handle it if I miscarried and I had ridden all the rides with warnings. I would be a mess. And knowing that the odds of it happening regardless would not make me feel any better. I would still completely beat myself up over it.

I rode Thunder Mt and Test Track when I was about 10 weeks, but I didn't enjoy them. I worried the entire ride and braced myself against all of the bumps. I was just fine, but I wouldn't do it again - it wasn't worth the stress.

I was at WDW in my 6 th week. I rode every thing! Mission space I would skip. It wasn't there when I went.Just rember some ride may afect you now. In all have fun.

I will be 5 months when we go in December. I plan on skipping:

MK:
Big Thunder
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain (would probably do this one though at your stage)
Tea Cups
Caurosel (too hard to get on horse not pregnant, would probably do at your stage though)

Epcot:
Mission Space
Test Track (would probably do at your stage)
Maelstrom (don't really like anyway, would probably do at your stage)
Body Wars

MGM:
Tower of Terror
Rock'n Rollercoaster
Star Tours

AK:
Dinosaur

I personally don't think the Safari is any worse than a car ride in Pennsylvania and our pot hole streets, so I plan on doing that. Soarin' is a great E-ride that you should have no problems with. Also, virtually every ride has a warning for liability reasons, but I plan on doing them. We go at least once a year though, so skipping a few rides this trip isn't a big deal to me.

I was 10 weeks pg the last time we went, and the only thing with a warning that I did not skip was the K. Safari. The secret is to ask to sit up front, and wait if you have to so that you get the front seat. Not as bumpy. Worked for me, like another poster said, our streets are worse than that around here! LOL
Congrats!
I had tons of energy, no morning sickness and lost 4 lbs while eating like a pig, so WDW was very good for me during pregnancy!

Yes - you're exactly right. My miscarriage may have happened even if I didn't ride Space Mountain, but it's not that easy to accept when it happens to you. I beat myself up for a long time.

And in all likelihood it probably had nothing to do with you riding Space Mountain....but I think in that situation you need to blame "something". And us being women the perfect candidate always seems to be ourselves. I'm sorry you had to go through the pain of a miscarriage - and I'm sure having to suffer through it on vacation made it even more painful.

I was 10 weeks pregnant when I went to Disneyland. I talked to my doctor and he said there was nothing wrong with the thrill rides, as long as I had no problem riding them. Those signs are more for women in the last trimester. I rode pretty much everthing but TofT and the other sudden-drop ride at California Adventure. Talk to your doctor.

Also, even though you are early on in your pregnancy, take lots of breaks from walking. I had some issues with my hips and legs...even though I wasn't even showing. :confused3

Have fun!! :Pinkbounc

You will probably be very tired during the first trimester and you will need to adjust for that. Plan on napping in the afternoons (mabye your significant other can ride some of the wilder rides in the afternoons). Also, be sure you have lots of priority seatings. Last time I checked, eating was on the to do list for pregnancies...unless you get the dreaded morning sickness! Which, reminds me have some little snacks handy incase you feel queazy. There is a wrist band your doctor can give you that helps with morning sickness, I was going to get one but, then the sickness stopped.

There are so many fun attractions that are not bumpy or jerky, you won't feed deprived at all! Do book the Fantasmic package if you can. Off the top of my head at MK our non-bumy faves are: Phillarmagic, Buzz Lighyear, Pooh, Haunted House...then there is the shopping. I personally would not buy anything for baby until you are out of your first trimester.

I feel so much for the poster who rode the rides and miscarried. It was a while ago so I'm sure you have come to terms with it in your own way but, it probably would have happened whether you rode the rides or not.
