DVD Players for airplanes

Hopefully this isn't off topic, but does anyone have a recommendation for a model of DVD player to use on airplanes?

I had a TOshiba for my last trip, but the volume was not loud enough to hear clearly. I could hear the music ok, but the dialouge was hard to make out at times. After that trip, I've been reading reviews and it seemed like this was not an uncommon problem. I've looked into the noise cancelling earphones, but don't like the price and size of them and I am afraid that even they won't be that much help. I just need a 7-8" screen- doesn't need to be fancy.

Does anyone have a LOUD DVD player model that they can recommend??

Thanks

Perhaps I am misunderstanding. Do you want to be able to hear your DVD player without earphones on an airplane? What about the people around you--such as the row in front of yours that DON'T want to hear your movie?

If you are just looking for headphone recommendations, I apologize and we simply used the headphones that came with the rental DVD player we got at the airport and I can't remember what kind they were.

Noise cancelling headphones are great on a plane. I agree you will need to use some type of headphones with the dvd player.

I bought a pair of AIWA noise-cancelling phones for $40. They don't cancel that much noise, but they do make music/movies much more audible.

I can't say that it's my DVD player (a Kodak 7") or my headphones, but I don't have any problems.

I am planning on using headphones on the plane just the DVD player I bought had low volume that you couldn't hear dialoge over the noise of a plane. I doubt they would let you play one without headphones on a plane.

I really am looking for a recommendation for a good DVD player that has good sound and adequate volume. At first I thought it was just my player being defective, but I guess this is not an unusual problem with DVD players. Or at least that is what the internet reviews I've read implied. Also, The guy I talked to at Best BUy said a lot of people returned their DVD players for the same reason.
It just doesn't make sense that they would sell players that you can't hear over the noise of a plane( WITH regular headphones) . Maybe I do just have to buy the noise canceling headphones to get the proper sound from one.

I thought I'd try here to see if it was just my player or if others had this problem. I've used my laptop on planes for DVDs with the same headphones and had no problem, but I hate carrying my laptop around and then worrying about it for the rest of the trip.

I have the Mintek MDP-1810 model and I love it. I got a great deal on it at Kohl's back in November. The vloume and picture quality on it are wonderful. I never had to turn the volume up all the way to hear it on the plane (of course I was wearing headphones). I have used it on three different trips, at home, and at hotels. I have had no issues with it at all. I know Kohl's has a similar model now that was on-sale last week for $159.99...if youare loooking for a deal watch for the Bonus Days they have that is when I snagged mine.

We use Bose headphones when we use our DVD player on flights. They cancel the noise and amplify the sounds so you can hear great. I don't think you would want to use your DVD player without headphones because you might bother others around you on the flight. We also have some kind of adapter that allows us to use two sets of headphones at the same time so two people can watch a DVD. I think it would be cheaper to buy a good set of headphones than buying a new DVD player anyway.

I have a Panasonic DVD player. 9 inch screen.
It is great!! Had it for 1.5 years with no problems.
Got a power plug so it can be used in Cars and planes.

Noise Canceling headphone work great with it.

Believe me, there are plenty of people buying mini-dvd players for their kids and not using headphones. My last flights to and from LAX were full of them. I would have been a Barney-induced coma had I not been watching mine (with the headphones on... )

And as to OP, the Mintek is a great player and I had no problems with the sound quality or volume.

Oh my I am sorry to read this. My girls use a gameboy or dvd and are not allowed to play/watch without headphones.

As one who likes to read on the flight and is soooo done with the Barney days I hope the tots on my next flight have headphones. Maybe I should bring an extra pair of my freebe headphones to "share" LOL.

To the OP we have a very inexpensive dvd player and the headphones did make a difference. We also have a 2 way splitter and with the noise reduction headphones both girls can hear fine at about 1/2 volume. With a generic headphone they have to turn it up all the way with just one listener. Perhaps if you know someone with a noise cancelling set you could try them with your dvd to see if they help. If so you can save some $$, if not at least you know its the DVD for sure.
