DVCRESERVATIONS.com?

Is www.DVCRESERVATIONS.com legit? It looks good but has anyone booked through them?
They were discussed here a couple of years ago.

I don’t know if you’re an owner or a renter, but from my perspective as an owner, they would be a hard NO.

ETA: They were also mentioned briefly in the David’s COVID thread. At the time of the post, DVCReservations was asking owners to refund for cancelled reservations. There was no follow up on the post and I don’t know if they also chose to give vouchers to renters who were affected by the closure.

I rented through them last year. I was very nervous about it at first because we we dealing though text messages and the website did not look "official." I also could not find any "reviews" about them anywhere. That said, the person I dealt with was always responsive to my messages and gave me the owner's name to confirm the deed (one way to check if I was getting scammed). It all ended up working out fine.

Well, that’s another reason why, as an owner, I wouldn’t deal with them. The whole purpose behind using a broker is to put a buffer between the renter and the owner. Giving the renter the owner’s name removes that level of anonymity. This broker actually gains access to the owners’ accounts thru the owners portal in order to book the reservation. They already confirmed that the person renting out the points was a member.

And for the renter, the broker is supposed to be providing you with a level of security, assuring you that your money is safe by withholding full payment from the owner until the time of checkin. You shouldn’t have to play the role of internet detective to ensure that the “owner” actually owns DVC. And while I assume that you checked the OC comptroller’s website for the deed, be aware that members can also own at AUL, VB, HHI or VGC and none of those deeds are recorded on the OC comptroller’s website.

I can't really disagree with you. It was the first (and only) time I rented points. The usual brokers did not have the points I wanted and he did. I am glad it worked out for me and just wanted to share that experience with the OP. I have since found this board and other places to research DVC and also become a DVC owner, so I am armed both with more knowledge and my own points!

I rented a confirmed reservation thru a broker a couple weeks ago and the owners name was all over the paperwork that I received. They even told me to say I was a guest of “(the owner)” when I was checking in and to make sure I didn‘t mention I was renting points.

This company is not the only one giving out the owners name.

So they don't know the product they are brokering and tell renters to lie? That's a hard no on working with them IMO.

OP - after what happened with David's and similar reports from other brokers I'd really recommend renting directly from an owner vs using a broker.

Renting is permitted by the Public Offering Statement. If they told you that, like Kathy says, they aren't the company to rent from or to.

I totally agree. As renting is specifically allowed in our purchase contracts, why would the renter be told to say otherwise? I wouldn't be comfortable giving them my DVC login info, either.

Could it be that the rental is an RCI exchange (which can't officially be rented)?

Great point. And if I was that renter informed to lie I would be asking that question.

A typical DCV reservation can have renters. Of course it could also be that this owner rents a lot and is close to the red flag number.

Either way I would not want to do business with a company who tells you to lie.

Crossed my mind too but I dismissed it since they didn't mention an exchange fee and for some reason listing an "owner" to me means it's an actual point rental from a DVC owner. Also just looked back and it appears they stayed at BWV so almost certainly not RCI.

Nope - this was not an RCI exchange. It was points - 248 to stay in a BWV 1 bedroom standard for 11 nights. We booked 2 days prior when the price came down to $10 per point. We did online checkin, so we didn’t discuss that we were or were not renters with the front desk!

We are already home, and the stay was great! BWV was like a ghost town. We are BWV owners, but had rented out all our points for a Disney cruise.
