Sorry if this is a really obvious question but what is DVC? I've
Heard it mentioned and just reading through 1 of the other post
Someone mentioned renting points what's this and how does it
Work?? Apologies in advance if this has already been explained!!

Disney vacation club - there is a separate board on here for uk dvc - they should be able be answer all your questions.

It's some sort of pre-paid vacation program. You purchase temporary ownership at one of the Disney Vacation Club resorts and then get a certain amount of annually recurring points which can be used at those resorts as "payment".

It's sort of timeshare, but not the traditional model, where you get a specific appartment for a fixed date / duration every year but more flexible, so you get the choice of several different resorts both in Walt Disney World but also some outside. Also, you get to choose the acommodation size, studio with kitchenette, 1-, 2- or 3-bedroom appartments with full kitchen and living room.

BTW, you will probably get more answers if you post in the UK DVC board, not the generic UK travel planning board. Maybe a moderator can move you post.

Disney Vacation Club, its Disney's version of timeshare.

Some love it, some like myself are not interested.
You have to pay a lump sum upfront then annual dues each year.
You also have to consider exchange rates as you pay in $'s the cost can increase greatly with a poor exchange rate.

Also consider deals Disney offer, like free DDP, not available to DVC members, only way they can do it is to rent out their own points to take advantage of the deals.

If you 100% want to stay onsite every year or every other year for many years its possibly a good option, for us only way we will stay onsite is with a deal(recent years paid around £100/night OKW & free DDP or £70/night AKL savannah view with AP discount) no deals then we would rather stay offsite than pay DVC prices.
To give you example of costs our 16 nights stay next August at OKW would require 247 points annual dues for that amount of points would cost approx £750, initial cost would depend if you bought thru Disney or resale, anything from around $60 to over $100/point.

Lots of sites out there with info, one here

Read thru the DVC forums and other sites, its not for us but many enjoy being in it.

I've been a DVC member for 14 years with no regrets - in fact, I've just added on more points now we have a grandchild :goodvibes

I'd only ever recommend it to someone who has done lots and lots of research because it definitely is NOT a good fit for everyone.

A few points based on Wayne's post:

I would NOT want free dining - my idea of a nightmare - nor would I want to be tied down to buying Disney tickets for each visit (as you are with the UK deals) to get the 'free dining'. My DH has had the same 7-day Premium Hopper Plus ticket for about the last 6 years - he might just use the final day of it on our next trip

I still travel extensively around the USA and Canada and staying at a Fairfield, Courtyard, Holiday Inn ...... name your chain ..... whilst great value (especially in Orlando currently) just doesn't say 'a bit special' to me, in the way that DVC resorts do - especially the one-bedroom villas. When I was younger my criteria were different and in fact, we happily stayed at the Comfort Inn, LBV because we were hardly ever in the room! Things change ;)

The ability to stay at other resorts is important to me. I love Disney's Vero Beach resort and hope to revisit Disney's Hilton Head resort again soon. When we first started visiting central Florida more than 20 years ago, I knew it was somewhere I would always want to return to and I was right. Except now I am looking at how to escape the British winters for as long as possible rather than juggling with school holiday dates and DVC is very much part of that :woohoo:

It is not a cheap purchase - but I cannot think of a single thing I've parted with such large amounts of cash for that have given me such pleasure. Certainly no car has ever come close :)

We love our DVC. If you regularly stay in the Luxury resorts at WDW then DVC is the way to go as, although the payment up front might seem high, you will make it back in a few years. Can't beat that "Welcome Home" feeling :-)

We have been members for 6 years and have never looked back. Nothing touches the Treehouse Villas. best purchase I have ever ever ever made.

If you like staying in the moderate or luxury resorts on site this is for you. Free dining will not be available for ever and also not at the dates I want.

The years we do not go to Disney we rent our points out. I have guaranteed disney holidays for the rest of my life. We paid for it years ago and therefore all we pay for are our flights and maintenance. If you go at busy times like New year you use more points. Also there are loads of discounts for DVC members such as discount on annual passes so we tend to go twice in 12 months and then leave it a year or two

We have also used our points for disney cruise, disneyland Paris and a villa in Devon!!!

Just remember one thing, if you get DVC you'll find yourself at WDW a lot more often.

This is both good and bad, good for your happiness rating, bad for your bank balance! ;)

Been a member for 5 years and never regretted a minute of it. :D

Been a member for the past 3 years, just added on at another resort. Family absolutely love it.

Been members for 12 years now, done 2 cruises ( one of which was the member cruise 2007) stayed all over the place. We wouldn't have had these magical experiences if we hadn't joined. Parents coming along next year so there will be 3 generations at Kidani for 18 days....can't wait.
