I just found this on the DVC website (please forgive me if it's been posted already -- I did search these boards and came up empty):

- - - - - - -
"Due to the high occupancy that is expected in early April, DVC Members will not be permitted to use the pool at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort on certain dates. The dates that have been identified so far are April 1-15, 2001, but additional dates may be included. Please check with the resort front desk regarding pool availability prior to going over to the resort."

This has been the policy the past 2 years. No pool hopping at Stormalong Bay for the 2 weeks around Easter. All other pools (except AKL) are still available for hopping. Enjoy!

Thanks, Doc. I was at WDW last Easter and was given a sheet of paper upon check-in stating that no pool-hopping was allowed. Others, however, were at WDW the same time as I was and they posted that they were not given a sheet of paper and they were allowed to pool hop. I found it so confusing to hear that. Same stay, different rules.

I did not see the "NEWS FLASH" posted on the DVC members only website last year. Seeing that this year was a surprise. It was nice to see it, however, so far in advance.

I understand why pool hopping is suspended during peak attendance times, but why the first week of April? Surely more people will be at WDW 4/15 - 21 than will be 4/1 - 4/7. In fact, extended hours at the MK and TDS are (logically, IMO) from 4/8 - 4/21 which is indeed the two week period around Easter.

Also, I've heard that the Fantasmic! dinner package will not be offered 4/8 - 4/21 due to the Easter holiday. Although I don't know why they need to suspend this program, at least it's consistent with the extended park hours. Again, why the inconsistency with the pool hopping policy?

I have to confess that my question is self-serving since we will be at BWV 3/30 - 4/7. We will certainly make a point of visiting Stormalong Bay this Saturday since it appears as if this will be our only chance!

It's not just Easter but the entire Spring Break Season that brings crowds. (There's an article in today's Orlando Sentinel about a Daytona H.S. that forgot about Srping Break and scheduled their prom last weekend. More than half the kids couldn't get through the traffic and Spring Break mobs to reach the prom before it was over.)

Last year there was advance notice of this closing in a letter to members (might have been included with Vacation Magic).

Is it only Stormalong Bay (which I knew happened every year this time), or all the hotel pools?

I guess I just don't understand why 4/1 - 4/7 will be busier at Y&B than 4/15 - 4/22. However, I realize that they are probably basing their decision on the # or % of rooms booked at Y&B during those weeks, and I also know that they are rserving the right to block out additional dates.

PamOKW, I got a kick out of your part about last year this advance notice was sent in a letter and might have been included with Vacation Magic. We all know how the Mail system works from the DVC (sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t). Thanks for the chuckle.

I, too, would have thought the busiest period would have been the week before & the week after Easter. That would have put the no pool hopping dates at 4/7 to 4/22 (by the way, I’m still expecting them to extend the dates to 4/22). My family never pool hops (probably because we usually don’t stay in one resort for an entire vacation), but still, if we decided to finally pool hop, it might have been this vacation. Drats. Foiled again.
