Hi
We have an RCI timeshare which we love.
I was wondering if anyone is lucky enough to own both and which one they prefer and why?

Hi Tony

I believe the Sheraton Vistana is very nice and it is well situated but I personally wouldn't buy an Orlando timeshare other than Disney because it's considered to be a saturated market (often making resales less than half the developer price and exchanges not quite so easy as DVC because demand to stay 'on property' is always high). But, if you got at a price you are happy with and it suits you, then that's all that matters :thumbsup2

At some time in the future, I might consider buying a european Marriott timeshare to use occasionally and to trade into the USA (at other Marriotts). I'm no timeshare expert, but because of this I have done a bit of research on the tug site.

I would guess that you have good trading options, but we can trade out of DVC too, although maybe you have direct access to what's available for trades and we would have to go via DVC?

DVC is expensive but is very flexible - you could book for just one night for instance, a studio or Grand villa to sleep 12. Trades into other DVC off-site places (Vero Beach and Hilton Head) cost us nothing extra to arrange. I especially like the fact that I can stay at lush and beautifully landscaped condo-type places with parking outside of my door (Old Key West or Saratoga) or a hotel-type place right in the middle of the action, eg Boardwalk villas or Wilderness Lodge and still have access to Disney transportation.

So go on ...... share what you love about Vistana and RCI and why :)

I like The Vistana because it was such a big step up from the 2 double beds in the motels we have stopped in before, you can see lots of pictures and get a feel for it ibn my trip report if you have the time.
It was really cheap £3,500 on the secondhand market, converted to RCI points so we can trade out virtually anywhere in the world. We stayed on site this year for the first time and loved it. We don't be going next year as Maddie will be starting Uni and we want to help her as much as we can but we are planning on taking my mum with us in 2008 and will be staying for 1 week in North Carolina and 1 week in Florida all on our RCI pionts. :thumbsup2

Sounds like you got a great deal there Tony ...... and I had read your trip reports ;)

For years we stayed in cheap and cheerful places like Comfort Inn etc and it really is soooooooo nice when you see what else is out there too isn't it? Good luck with your North Carolina exchange; points seems to be the way the timeshare industry is going.

That's really interesting, Tony. It's awlays good to hear how things actually work out, rather than the sales pitch of what should work out!

I have friends with RCI (somewhere in Orlando - never quite sure where) and they seem to trade out all the time, very successfully. It's definitely something I'd like to look into if I have some 'spare' funds ... but I still love our DVC ;)
