Is it possible to get upgraded from a standard view to a savannah view at AKL in September of this year? Is it more points or do they charge you?

Free upgrades for DVC stays on points are very rare. They generally occur only if there is some type of unexpected last minute maintenance issue.

If there is availability when you check in, you can upgrade but will be charged the additional points. If you are renting, please do not attempt to upgrade unless you do it ahead of time through the owner.

one guy tried this with me and had no problem saying no - since he was trouble from day one.

the only time DVC gives free upgrades - is when something is wrong with the room you were assigned and there are no more with that view.

besides if you are staying Jambo house - be happy with a standard view - sure make it easier to get to the restuarants, lobby, pool, and buses = than savannah view.

They don't always call. We had a renter add the DDP at check in. The Front Desk canceled the original reservation, put our points in holding and used points from another contract for the new reservation. We didn't know about it until I saw the holding points when making a reservation. Took a few days to fix the mess.

There are a few standard views that are reclassified savannah views. At check in you could see if one of those rooms were available for you to be assigned to. It would be a request only though and not guaranteed.
