DVC triple split...would you drive?

We booked 5 nights in a 2BR in Aug at HHI for my family of 5 (twin DDs-15 and DS-17). I recently booked 4 nights at WDW for just my DDs and I to do a mother/daughter trip. It's added on right before our HHI trip...and a split (2 nights at SSR and 2 nights at BWV). For the same cost we could fly down and take ME to SSR and on check out of BWV we could rent a car at Dolphin and drive up to HHI to meet the boys (turn rental in at HHI airport where the boys would pick us up). OR I could drive our car all the way to WDW (14 hours) and then on to HHI and back home after HHI. The gas (for all 3 legs) and 1 night in hotel (for the way down to WDW) would cost about the same as the flying (we have a credit with SW) and rental.

It would be nice to have our own car to set our own schedule, have less hassles (no airport hassles or ME hassles or getting over to Dolphin to get rental) and to be able to pack as we wish...easier for switching over for the split stay in WDW too. My girls are wanting to drive...looking forward to a road trip. But, it is a 14 hour drive to WDW...flying is just 2 hours and I do have that credit. SW opens up the rest of Aug flights in about a week...so I want to figure it out soon. What would you do?

I think I would drive down since your children won't mind. True your flight down is only 2 hours. But when you add transportation time to and from the airport you and getting/returning the rental car you are adding another 3+ hours to your trip. So its 14 hours vs 5+ hours still a difference but you will have your own car. As long as your car is in good condition I would say road trip!
As for your return trip, you will be stopping in HH so that will break the trip up nicely.

I am from MD and we don't mind the drive too much and you have HHI to break it up..I say drive too.

I'll be driving a 2 year old Outback...so it's very reliable and roomy for the 3 of us. I think I'll drive...should be fun and can time it to get to SSR early enough to check in and head to AK for lunch (might just try Tusker House as a walk in).
