I have been considering buying into to DVC for about 2 years now. Everytime we have been at the world we have not been able to take a tour. I think I most likely would end up buying resale but I still want to take the tour and see exactly what WDW has to offer.

Anyway...does anyone know what the current 'gift' is for taking the tour??? I was thinking of taking it this March while I'm in Orlando with a friend but don't want to take it if the gift is something I can't use. We are not staying onsite and will not be entering any parks. I will be back in FL in August for a WDW vacation so it might be better to take the tour then.

Usually it's fastpasses or giftcard. I would request what it is and see what they offer.

Last time we were there is was the fastpasses which if that's what it is in March will be wasted. I am hoping to hear that it's the gift card because I can save it until I return in August

My evil plot is that I take the tour in March come home with all the info and then when we go in August....I can persuade DH to buy. While we are there he is usually open to almost anything.

Just an FYI - Disney may not give you anything if you are married and don't have both people on the tour. They feel that it's a waste of their time if you can't sign the contracts after the tour.

Well that's interesting since the 3 different times that I have talked with the people in the both at DTD they told me that it's totally no pressure. They said that they do not expect you to buy after the tour. They do expect that you are going to go away and think about it.

Would you say that is not true???

My friend just returned from a week at the Disney Institute. She did the tour (her room at the Yacht Club had a brochure stating that she could get a $100 gift card) After the tour, she was given a $15 gift card. When she called to ask why it was only $15, she was told that the mousekeeper had put the wrong brochure in her room and that since her husband wasn't with her, she couldn't get the $100 gift card. She is the breadwinner in the family (her words, not mine) and she would be the person buying the contract. It didn't matter. She said it wasn't about the $85 dollars, just the idea behind it. She felt it was contrary to what she had just spent a week learning about the "disney way of business".
She didn't buy, FWIW.

I say that they are in the business to sell timeshares. If you aren't going to buy while there, then letting you walk is a good sales ploy. They will tell you that the fabulous offer is only good for three days and believe me, you feel like you have cheated your love ones for not buying sooner.

I also know that the ASA's who set up your appointment will ask if you are married and if your significant other is going with you on the tour. A presentation and sale to both parties has a better chance of not being rescinded.

Disney is VERY good at selling and knowing the psychology of people. How else can they be so successful at selling new contracts when there are so many resales on the market at a substantial savings.

Please report back and tell us how things went.

Well Thanks...that's some good/interesting info.

Truth be told my DH really has nothing to do with me buying in. However, we very rarely do something without consulting the other. We both like to have the others approval before making a large purchase.

Plans are still in the works for the March trip and I don't even know where we are staying yet but I will post an update after. I'm fairly sure that I will take the tour.
