DVC Tour question

Hi All... We are going to WDW in July and we are renting points to stay in The Wilderness Lodge Villas. After we return, we are going to consider buying in to DVC (I say we are going to consider it - but the truth is they "had me at hello").

In any case, 2 questions:

1) Is the DVC tour/presentation with the representative worth the time? We have done a fair amount of research and have a pretty good idea of where we want to buy. Also - there is a strong possibility we may buy "resale" and I don't want to waste their time - we definitely will not sign anything when we are down there.

2) How long does the tour/presentation take? We are only there for 7 days and don't want to miss much "park and resort" time.

FYI - these forums have been invaluable - thanks to all.

The tour is about 90 min. in length (if you don't buy) and you may get 3 instant fasspasses for everbody in the group and icecream at the end. It is a nice tour to take to see the models of the rooms. A tip is to take the tour early in the trip so your fasspasses don't expire.

My wife and I were there around Christmas 2009. We were picked up at AK and dropped off to MK and it took about 90 minutes including the tour and travel time between parks and DVC. The tour was rather quick (we had done a lot of research as well so we didn't have to ask a lot of questions) After we were offered ice cream and given (2) 50 dollar gift cards (a promotion) they had going at that time. I will say the drivers were very nice and made you feel at home as well. They were very knowledgeable about any questions my wife and I had and both of our drivers were DVC members as well.
We went on our tour on Wednesday December 16th and went back after making our decision to buy in on Sunday December 20th. We were picked up at our hotel (Wilderness Lodge) and driven to DVC and meet up with our sales person (Larry Hope) and told him our decision. The entire process of signing everything went really quick. Once again about 90 minutes including travel time. I don't regret one moment the time we spent going over to meet Larry and tour the models at DVC. We were also given 4 fast passes each (each card had 3 uses) So we had 24 fast passes between my wife and I. The only thing I regret was not buying in on Wednesday so I could have used all the fast passes (We left on Sunday December 20th)

Unless you live in a state where DVC is not registered (for example Nebraska I believe) you can always have a phone presentation. That might be better for your situation as would save you time on your vacation yet you could get all the information. Also if you decide you want to be notified when The Timeshare Store, Inc.® gets new listings you can let us know at sales@dvcstore.com.

We just bought in January and I agree that it would have been about 90 minutes if we hadn't bought then (a little longer for paperwork). We made our arrangements on the first day we were there for their 1st appointment in the morning, 8am. They picked us up from our resort at 7:40 and then delivered us to the park of our choice when we left, all in all we didn't feel we had lost much time.

This is the only significant purchase I've ever made that I've had NO buyer's remorse about. I'm only sad we didn't find a way to join sooner!

Good luck!

If you think that you know it all, then why bother?

If it were me and I was going to spend thousands of dollars, I would learn everything that I could. I would go on the tour and spend time at the different resorts. Then I would rent and stay at the resort that interests me the most.

Next I would compare direct and resale pricing and buy the best deal.

You will have years and years of staying at WDW to visit the parks. Researching the DVC before I spend my money would be my first priority.

The greatest thing about DVC is that there is no pressure. When I went, the Guide gave me the information, left me alone for about 10 minutes to look over some materials and returned with the rest of the materials for me to take home. That was it!

I thinkthe tour is worth it. Take a look at the weather schedule, and if you have a stormy day (or part of a day) in the forecast, do it then. Definately take the time to get all the data you can before making a decision.

i skipped it.

i did a ton of research on the DIS and checked out a lot of pics on the web...then bought the resale i wanted.

then i went to the SSR site during owners hours (i think it was 5pm-7pm at the time) and looked around the models on my own to see the BLT models prior to BLT opening... i also checked out the BWV model on the boardwalk for fun... i visited the different resorts to get a feel for the mood of the place (and took the wdw buses)...

but i don't feel like i missed out by skipping the tour.

we definitely will not sign anything when we are down there.

:lmao: that's exactly what we said...right up until we started signing our contract paperwork. :goodvibes

There are some benefits to buying while you are there (provided you are not going the resale route) such as you become a DVC member immediately and can use your temporary ID to get any discounts that DVC members are entitled to (the biggie being the discount on APs). Rest assured that you are not wasting your Guide's time at all, but I think you should be upfront with your Guide that you are most likely going resale but are taking the tour to see the models and get some questions answered. When we took the tour in March, 2009, we were there about 2 hours, but there were 2 couples in front of us also buying so we had to wait a while for our paperwork to be printed. Have a great vacation and hopefully we can all welcome you home soon! :thumbsup2

We bought in December while we were there and I think the main thing is the closing costs may be a bit cheaper, if you do it by mail/courier you have to get your own notary to witness the papers and that may cost you some money....not really a big deal....but every little bit helps!
