I have read quite a bit on the threads about people needing a disabled room and they are all booked. Does anyone know say if we went ahead with buying a DVC we would loose out if there wan't any rooms as we would 100% need disabled facilites.

I would think as long as you book at the 11month window, you should be ok. It would be worth discussing with your Vaction Club guide though.

I've read many threads where people who have arrived late in the day have been given a handicapped room, when they didn't need or want it. It would seem there are usually HA rooms available. Booking early may help, though it would seem that at OKW particularly, arriving early on the first day of your stay works better. But I'm sure that when making your booking, if you put it down as your first request, and you make it quite clear that it is absolutely essential, they will definitely honour it, and you won't have any problems.

I would be amazed if they didn't - but as Gilld says check with your guide to be certain.

This is the sort of thing that Disney does treat as a priority - and I am sure you would have absolutely no worries at all. If you get the words 'medical reasons' on your booking form, they will pre-assign the room you need. I always request a first floor room (ground floor) at OKW for medical reasons and I have always got what I wanted, no matter what time I arrive, and I have checked in more than 20 times since joining ;)

As the others said, early booking would help to put your mind at rest, but like Bexx, I've read the many, many threads on the US DVC boards about people being dissatisfied because they are allocated a handicapped room when they don't want them because that is all that is left.

I'm sure you'll find them very helpful if you do speak to Disney about this.

thanks for the info.

Pootle, how do you find the disabled/handicaped rooms? i.e. is the shower sufficent for a shower chair etc would you get a hoist under the beds that sort of thing.

I have never been inside a handicapped room so cannot help you with this one. I request a first floor room because of arthritis the stairs would not be easy. I'm sure if you posted on the US DVC forum you would get people happy to answer your questions. Also sending you a PM. :wave2:

I use a wheelchair. I have stayed in a one bedroom villa at Boardwalk twice now, with a third booked for this year.

Because my home resort is Wilderness Lodge, I have always booked at seven month window. I have never failed to get what I want. My visits have always been September or October.

The one bedroom has plenty of room for a shower chair, though I have no experience of using a hoist. You could ask this question over on the DISabilaties forum.
