DVC Reservation Verification

If you rent points from a DVC member, as the renter are there any ways to verify your reservation? If you have the reservation number are you allowed to call and at least verify that the reservation exists and that your name is on the reservation? Are there any ways to verify through disney's website? I understand that you can't make any changes, but I would at least like to verify that the reservation exists.

You can verify it online at:

or by phone at 407-939-4636.

This is an automated telephone interaction so you will need to wait for directions and then choose option #3 (Resort info.). You will then select "Reservation Confirmation" from the options and then provide the reservation information requested.

I guess it is trust that the ressie doesn't get canceled once booked and paid for? Is this correct?
I have someone that is checking availabilty for me tomorrow morning since I am going to rent points for the first time (saving our points for Disney Dream next year). I gave them my names and address of where to send me the confirmation (my work address).
How is payment usually done and do you pay all in full right away?

No, only the member who controls the reservation may use MS to confirm or make changes to a reservation. The printed confirmation will be mailed to the member, even though it will have your name on it.

Payment method should be negotiated before sending any money. You should definitely NOT use Western Union. I would personally prefer paying by credit card so I would have some recourse - but that still depends on when the trip might be and when payment is made.

There are a lot of suggestions about handling rentals on the Rent/Trade Board here on the DIS. It might be worthwhile to review those suggestions before sending any money.

Thank you. I am doing business with a dis member that has been renting on here since 2004. He called today and was able to get my request.
He asked that once he gets the mailed Disney confirmation and sends to me and I receive, I send him 50% for deposit and another 50% 2 months prior to my trip. He will also send a rental agreement with my confirmation.

I asked about payment and he said I could just send him a personal check, which I thought would be easy enough. Do you think this would be a bad idea in any way? I don't do ebay so not sure. I could get a bank check. Would you suggest credit card? Not sure if he has an account for that since it wasn't mentioned.

Rental transactions are all about trust. If he has provided references that you have checked, you have good faith in him and are comfortable sending a personal check (with no recourse once it's cashed) then that is fine. If you want another level of protection, then look for another member to work with.

Please review the threads stuck at the top of the Rent/Trade Board for more information and suggestions. If you are comfortable with the member already, then you can use any form of payment you are willing to work with.

Thank you. My reservation was made, I have the confirmation number and I have already asked again tonight if he can please call back MS tomorrow and change my booking from a Standard to Preferred or Boardwalk view.
I feel bad I am asking him to make another phone call but also will be paying him more if the request is available, just for that one phone call.
