DVC Rental Store is $24/Point for my stay, and Davids is $20/Point. Which one should I choose?

I guess the main difference is that DVC Rental Store has a better cancellation policy. Is it worth the extra $500 it will cost me? Is there a better option than these two companies?

Sorry if these are dumb questions...I'm new at this.

I've looked into renting several times. It really is a personal preference. You are paying for the differences in their policies essentially. If you want the cheapest price look at the boards or at dvcstore.com. I would say that both are large companies and reputable. David's had some owners upset with the pandemic and their cancellation policies.

Yes there is a better option. Look on the rental boards here for an owner renting points. There's a lot better options than $24/pt. And if you're concerned about needing to move a trip find out if the owner is willing to work with you. In the past most weren't but with conditions as they are some willing to take that extra step if necessary.

when are you going?

Please remember that discussing the dates in a thread dealing with point rentals is not permitted, as it then could be considered a "Reservation Wanted" post, and those are only allowed when responding directly into a Points for Rent thread on the Rent/Trade Board. Thanks..

$24pp seems very high. Is it because of travel insurance? Is it still more convenient than booking direct with the 30% promotion going on?

I took a quick look and I won't call its "stress-free cancellation policy" travel insurance. You only get 100% credit when cancelling 4 months out. If you wait until 15 days out, you are only getting 25%. Keep in mind you are only receiving credits, not cash back. I would definitely look at direct pricing first. Plus, some of the cancel for any reason travel insurance policies may actually have better coverage for not much more if not less cost (I know it doesn't cover pandemics).

I cant imagine $24 being less than Disney discounted pricing.

$20 is reasonable if staying at a difficult to book resort at a high demand time ie. Grand Cal. beyond that you will likely find better pricing from someone reputable here or elsewhere.

I will use time of year next time I ask

Thanks

Do some research and save yourself a boat load of money. $24 is crazy.

Your money though spend as you see fit, I am getting a good chuckle though.

The points calendar said my desired resort(PVB) and dates would be 125 points. I thought of renting points on the boards, but wasn't sure if it was possible to rent exact number of points from owner or if I could book this far out (11ish months). So basically, I'm not very informed yet...and need to do more research. Thanks for replies.

You should look for a Poly owner with over 125 points, they can make your reservation 11 months ahead. You can try other owners who don't have Poly points, but only 7 months ahead of time. Depending on when your trip is, Poly usually isn't very difficult to make a reservation.

If you are at 11ish months, you are booking in a period where I would not wait for 7 month booking with non-poly points.

Dumb question..... If a Poly owner had let's say, 175 points. Why would they want to rent me 125 points? Doesn't that leave them with a small amount of points they will have difficulty using/renting?

I agree, while Poly is often relatively easy to get compared to other resorts near the MK, you should book ASAP in the 11 month window. This year there is such a glut of points from so many cancelled reservations, people are booking their future trips as quickly as possible. As far as "exact" number of points, that is a really rare occurrence. Most DVCers will have a handful of points left after renting their points. If you want to book on the Rent/Trade board, look for someone that is offering Poly points with just a few more points available than you need. Or look for a Poly owner offering a LOT of points, as they'd likely have to rent to several different people anyway.
