I'm renting DVC points for our split stay. The first part of our trip we're staying at BWV. We want to add DME and DDP to our reservation, but the owner is not being very responsive. Does anyone know if I could have the person who we're renting from for the other part of our stay (at VWL) help us set up the DDP and DME for our BWV reservation?

It would have to be the person you rented the first part of the vacation from as it is their points and they own the reservation. That stinks! How long ago did you contact them? Maybe they are on vacation? When is your trip?

Well, poop! I originally rented them back in January. She had changed it to our name then and after that I hadn't heard from her until a few weeks ago. Apparently she had a new job that was keeping her incredibly busy. She told me she could add everything the next day. I sent a reminder email on Friday and still haven't heard anything. :-/ I usually have great luck renting points.

I would send her your flight info. She can add ME on line. For the DDP you still have until a few days before the trip to add it. Have you worked out a way to pay for it as it needs to be paid for when added?

I sent her the flight info, so hopefully that got done. She requested a money order, which I'd rather prefer to just to a three-way call with Disney and provide my cc info. I'm still waiting to hear back about where to send money and what else she needs on my end. I'm sure it will all work out...but it's the OCD planner in me that wants to get it all squared away ASAP!

DME isn't so particular about who sets up the reservation and you can do it yourself. Here's the number to contact them: 866-599-0951. If nothing else you could see check to see if you are set up and if not do it yourself.

DDP is particular and I don't think there's anyway to get around the owner setting it up. It's certainly gotten more difficult due to the payment being required at the time of booking. :sad2:

Member services is open both Saturday and Sunday, 9-5, I believe. there is no excuse for holding you off. However it is true you can add DME on your own.

Then renting is not the best avenue. The member is in the driver's seat.

Booking ME on your own can have mixed success. Officially DVC bookings must be made through ME, the phone announcement even tells you this. Sometime they will turn you away, other times they won't.

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate the helpful advice. :-)

Thanks for the DME number! I tried that once, but online, and didn't have any luck. I'll call tomorrow and to try get it set up. Thanks!!!

I'm also an AP holder, so if worse comes to worse, I can buy the TiWL and use that. Not what I prefer, but not a bad fall back option.

We love renting and have never had any issues in the past. Thanks for your helpful input, though! :rolleyes1

You will definitely save a LOT of money using the TIW card over the DDP. :thumbsup2

Actually, as you can tell from the way Sammie bolded your quote, it's obvious they were responding to your anxiety about wanting to get everything done right away. In that context, the advice was both accurate and helpful.

Obviously, when you are renting, you are on the owner's timetable and are at the mercy of their schedule and priorities. They may not be able to respond quickly to everything a renter wants, or they may simply have more important things to do.

Sammie's advice is helpful because when we answer questions on a public forum, we're really answering to the public...not just to the OP.

You may be perfectly comfortable with renting, and may have had numerous positive experiences in the past. But not everyone reading the thread is in that boat and a caution like Sammie's is often helpful to folks who don't know much about renting. Being subject to someone else's timetables and responsiveness IS one of the legitimate drawbacks of renting a reservation.

I think I need to do a little more research about the TIW card. I've heard the savings can be comparable. Thanks for the tip!
I think -- especially with DDP's ridiculous pricing now -- Diane is right. You only need one TiW card, but it can be used for up to a party of 10 at any meal. Very different than everyone in your party being forced to be on DDP. If you have friends or relatives join you for just one meal, they can get the discount as well. TiW gives you 20% off food and beverage, including alcoholic beverages.

If you're an "onsite captive," TiW offers some relief from the very high onsite food prices.
