With the renovations underway at the Contemporary and Polynesian, I’m wondering what the schedules are for the DVC resorts.

I know that a portion of our dues go to planned refurbs and major replacements, just curious to know if anyone has access to or good guesses as to what is planned and the timing for each of the resorts. :listen:

Maybe a listing of what has been done since OKW opened might be a good start as a way to put together a forecast for what’s to come?

Thanks and Peace,

Well, I've heard that at SSR they are moving all the buildings closer together in response to complaints about the size of the resort. ;)

Seriously, I don't know that they've ever published rehab schedules, like they did for the Polynesian. They do tell of 'upgrades', like the OKW pool slide and the expansion of the Turf Club at SSR. The only two things that come to mind (other than routine exterior fix-ups like painting) are some plumbing issues at one of the B resorts (BCV or BWV) and a DVC-wide upgrade of sleeper sofas.

Good question, though: I wonder if they'll eventually shut down one SSR building at a time for rehab, a la PR longhouses....

I haven't seen a formal schedule for DVC. Most timeshare vary between 5 to 7 years for soft goods and 10-14 for a full complete refurbishement. I know Marriott's Grande Ocean runs a 5/10 year schedule. My impression is that DVC is doing room by room as they see fit but it's a valid question to ask DVC or the resort management.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong , but are you saying they announced they ARE upgrading sleeper sofa's DVC wide?

Thanks :teeth:

We were having a lock replaced on our in-room safe in March and were told by the CM that the sofa beds are being upgraded. They are actually spending a good deal of money on custom made sofa beds so that repairs can be made more efficiently...ie: custom made beds with arms that can be replaced should just the arm break. Instead of throwing out the whole sofa (which is what they were doing) they can unscrew the arm, toss it and then replace it with a new one :thumbsup2 While a little more costly upfront they will certainly have to purchase less sofa's thereby saving $$$ :thumbsup2 They were not going to replace them all at once.

I think Dean's averages of 5-7yr for soft and 10-14 for complete refurb is probably a good best estimate. I wouldn't expect DVC to publish a schedule as it may bring out more hassle than help......
"When I made my reservation I made it specificaly clear to be in the most recently renovated room and now you've put me in a moldy, smoker's, handicap accesible, and bed bug infested studio that I had to walk miles of hallways to get to and the view looks over a garbage dumpster :furious: "

I will try to remember as the annual meetings get closer to remind someone to ask/confirm a general timeline.

With that in mind
OKW opened in 1992, so they are due for a complete refurb (If they have never done any, I think they have done some buildings.)
BWV opened in 1996, due for a complete refurb in 2010
VWL opened in 1999? due for a complete refurb in 2013
BCV opened in 2002 due for a complete refurb in 2016
SSR opened in 2004 due for a complete refurb in 2018

I know that they from time to time announce ammenity improvements (ie replacing VHS with DVD), Who knows, maybe we'll get an announcement (probably not anytime soon though) about flat screen/panel TVs like the Poly and Contemporary are getting.

Peace, G4L

This is a very timely thread. We just returned from a week at HHI and it is in need of a total facelift. We had a great time and we loved the resort, but the rooms are looking "tired". I spoke with one of the wonderful cast members at the front desk and he indicated that the resort is 10 yrs old and nothing major has been done to the rooms.

Our 2br unit was great and we enjoyed our view and the layout, but the door handles were loose, the tiles in the entry way were loose and cracked, the kitchen counter and cabinets were looking shabby and some of the window treatments were out of kilter. The list goes on. The room just wasn't up to normal DVC standards.

Like I said, we loved  the resort, the pool, the activities, castmembers and overall ambiance, but I'd love to see some needed updates to the rooms.

Someone on these boards mentioned not too long ago that VWL rooms were starting to appear shabby also. We haven't stayed at VWL on our last few visits so I haven't seen any rooms since we stayed there last, which was 1/2004. I know on our last visit to BWV 1/2005 it appeared that the rooms were in good shape (certainly not almost 10 years old) so I would say based on that maybe DVC follows closer to a 5/10 schedule also.
