DVC rack rate discount?

I just saw a post on Facebook where someone said there is a DVC discount off rack rates on rooms. We generally do one cash trip a year (we don’t have enough points LOL) and just heard about this. Is this true? Is it offered to resale membership?

Yes. It applies only to DVC resorts and not all rooms are always available for all dates.

But it’s worth a check when planning a trip!

As noted, the discount is not always available for any particular DVC resorts or rooms and, often, even when available, it may not not become so until closer to the time you want, e.g. if you check at 7-months out and it is not available, you might want to try later. Also, it is a 25% discount off the stated regular room rate. If Disney is itself doing a discount rate on the rooms, you do not get a 25% DVC discount off that already discounted rate. Moreover, before reserving, you should always check to see if any other discounts (such as an AP discount if you have an AP) are available that provide a better deal than the DVC discount.

Supposedly the discount is only offered on what is projected to be breakage inventory--rooms that are eligible for DVC points bookings which are not fully booked due to lack of demand. In this case, buying one time use points or renting points would likely prove to be a better value.

It is also helpful to call well in advance. We called a few weeks ago for a June trip. Most resorts had a 25% off discount on studios. We ultimately chose to not book as we will just borrow more points and use the cash for trip expenses. My point is though if you call now for a trip in a month or two you likely won't get the discount, but if you call 7-11 months out you will have better luck.
