So, we just put an offer in for a contract at AKL and it has been sent to disney for ROFR, closing Oct 16......soooo excited, now the waiting begins!Just wanted to share with people who would understand. Not that it is anyone else's business anyways, but have not told anyone in our family that we were even thinking about it.....oh the things that would be said.

Hope your deal goes through. Congrats!

We are just waiting on our member package to come. We closed about 10 days ago. I completely understand. It's funny that you mentioned not telling anyone. We feel the same way, not wanting to tell any friends or family. We have been really excited and decided to tell my DH's parents and my older brother and SIL, the only reason why being that we have kinda converted my brother and SIL into going to Disney with us, they have Epcot passes. We've been trying to convert my MIL and FIL to also get excited about Disney too. As far as the other people, we're worried they may talk behind our backs or try to mooch free hotel accomodations. :scared:

I understand completely. This is my third contract that just passed ROFR and I haven't told anyone either. I'm sure I'll get the "why do you need more pts". It's none of their business. My sister understands since she loves Disney and would love to purchase but her DH says no, so she goes with me alot since my DH doesn't want to go that often. It works out for both of us.

Good Luck with passing ROFR, it took me the full 30 days to hear back from Disney. Now onto the closing and making my first Holiday reservation at VWL for Dec 2013.

Funny, I feel the same way. My husband, though, told some friends at dinner, kind of to illustrate how obsessed I am. I was really annoyed, because they had another friend at the table whom I had never met. Turns out, this new guy was a DVC-er, too, and he completely understood me! :wave2:

Just remember... it's just a matter of time before all those people that think we're crazy are asking us to borrow points. :thumbsup2

LOL... I could have written this post!!! We actually just passed ROFR and are waiting to close. We have not told anyone except one friend who is a DVC member!!

We've never told anyone in our families that we own DVC, but our friends and co-workers all know.

Congratulations on your purchase.

Same here. Totally get the not sharing. We are waiting for ROFR process and haven't told anyone. This contract will be our second, as we already own at AKL. It's nice to be able to share with people who understand. :)

Congrats to both of you.

I understand, I told my sister but no one else in the family. They think I'm crazy, my girls are 6yo and have been to Disney 7 times. They can not understand why we go so often. We have another trip planned in 2 weeks for MNSSHP and another for marathon weekend. :rolleyes1

IMHO, all of you should be saying to everyone, join DVC it is a great feeling.
What I tell anyone you tries to give me lip:
He who pays the piper :rockband: calls the music :mic:.

I guess I am lucky, my whole family is just as obsessed as I am. None of them would ever think of teasing me about my obsession and risk taking a Carnival cruise next time...

We've told our family and friends about our recent purchase- their responses run the gamut from "We're never going back there again!" (let's just say they broke every WDW rule in the book - and then made up and broke some new ones on their first and only trip ... :rotfl:) to "That's nice ..." ... to "I am so jealous!!" (from our former WDW college-intern neighbor ... who unfortunately (?) is getting married next year and so can't spare the flight, food, and tix $$ to go with us for awhile ... but will be house- and dog-sitting for us when we go in November ...)

None of these types ... :worship: ... (yet!)

My DD let my family in on my plan of acquiring enough points to divide up among my 3 daughters. Even though they have been to BLT w/ me and loved their stay as much as me, I know they are wandering why I need so many points. My kids love Disney including the 16 year old:) IMO Disney is a great investment...Never too old or young for Disney:)

:thumbsup2 My parents didn't really understand the draw of DVC until they had their on SV studio at AKL-K last Oct/Nov....now no one says anything. MIL loved it from the get go. Folks at work understand because they know how much DH and I go to Disney and don't blame us...but we also don't talk about it much.

We have a young friend how is busy doing research for her first trip with her 4yr old, DH and parents. I have been giving her "advice" when she calls. Two nights ago she called to tell me that she was looking at AoA suites so they could stay together. She asks, "but I keep seeing this thing about DVC, what is that?" I just had to educate her....she asked, right? :rolleyes1

Glad to hear others feel the same way.Our kids are 6 and 4 and we've already been there twice, another trip planned for next year and we are already getting the "you're not going back there again spiel"....I wouldn't dare say yes, but now we will own a piece of the magic.:lovestruc .

Glad to see others like me!!!! My kids are now Disney-obsessed, like me :o) My DS tells me at least once a week, in a sad little voice, how he wishes he was back on the Disney cruise :thumbsup2 They, including DH, have no idea that I have a contract going thru ROFR right now (financing it now b/c the monies will come soon from my aunt who passed away)....this will be the gift that keeps on giving! Would love to plan a quick trip in January to surprise them, but I have an Alaskan cruise booked for the summer for DH's 50th bday. That's another surprise for all :rotfl:

Have fun and enjoy your points!

Just heard we passed ROFR today on our DVC.......best anniversary gift ever!!!!and to think hubby bought me a disney charm for my new bracelet-dreams really do come true.....I am over the moon right now.feels like we are keeping a deep dark secret if you know what I mean :rolleyes1. So,looking forward to our may trip now!!! Had to share with people that would get how much this means!!!hubby still does not want to tell anyone.

Congrats!!! We just got notice that we closed and are waiting for our member number, etc. from Disney... We are so excited but have only told our friends who are dvc owners.... Certain other people would give us grief about it even though we waited a long time to be in a position to afford it... Don't need anyone to bring us down so DH and I agreed to keep it to ourselves at least for now :)
