Hubby heard about this and we looked into it and it sounds too good to be true? Anyone done this? Is it legit?

Are you referring to renting points? Yes, anyone can rent points. Usually $12 to $14 a point. DVC member has to book reservation for you. Good deal, in that you can stay at a deluxe resort, for approximately moderate prices. However, one drawback would be that once the reservation is made, that's final! No cancels, or modifications. You have to be ultra certain about your dates. DVC members can book at their home resorts for you at 11 months, and 7 months for other resorts. This brings up another drawback, availability, especially during peak times! We're trying to rent for New Years, but will probably have to book moderate instead.
:confused3

Just make sure you are renting from a DVC member and not an RCI member who is trying to rent an exchange into DVC. Those are not permitted.

Do you mean David's Vacation Club? Yes, we used them on our last trip and they were great. Probably the only way we will ever get to stay deluxe! The experience was great and we will do it again next time. We just had to book really early (I think it was 11 or 10 months out) and then it was not refundable either and we understood that. But like I said we WILL do it again, our experience was two thumbs up!

If you go to the DVC forum they have a subsection for points for rent or transfer.

It is a great way to get a deluxe stay for value prices. Do your homework and make sure you get someone with many posts. Ask for references and make sure you get a contract spelling out the terms and conditions.

Most will ask for a strong deposit before hand with the remainder paid off 60 days before your arrival. That is because if you back out their points go into holding which causes problems for the DVC owner.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Thanks so much for responding! I've just never heard of this. Hubby heard about it from someone at work, so he looked into it. I just wanted to make sure it was real, lol. Seems very good! We would never stay at deluxe due to not feeling the need but if we can do it this way, why not? So we'll continue looking into it. :thumbsup2

Checked out the section on DIS and I don't know...I'm nervous about giving my credit card info to just anyone, even after checking references. I'm sure something bad happening is rare but ya never know. Do a lot of people do this?

Yes...a LOT of people do this. If you find an owner, you don't have to give them your CC info. You can pay via paypal or Chase Quik Pay or some other site like that. If you want the dining plan, you do have to figure out a way to pay for that in full, but again, I'm sure you can just give it to the owner as a gift via PayPal. DH and I have rented points at least 10 times in the past, and have been nothing but thrilled each time!
