DVC Points for Cruise?

I know I've seen many, many times that it is not recommended to use DVC points to book a cruise, that it is a poor use of the points. I'm just curious to how many points a cruise uses. Let's say I book the Halloween on the High Seas, 3 night cruise, out of Port Canaveral, October 19th of 2018, Deluxe Oceanview with Verandah, midship, for a family of 2 adults, 3 children (14, 11, 9). Is anyone able to tell me how many DVC points that would be??

Thank you. I saw that, but was confused on the range. For 2018 value season, for the verandah, it says 105-126 for guests 1 and 2, and even a broader range for the children's ages. The 6-12 group has a point range of 62 to 156.

The range is the high and low for that stateroom category. Cat 5 for example is divided into 5 subcategories: 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D and 5E. I believe that 5A is the highest of the Cat 5 rates and the rates decrease with B, C, D, etc.

Not sure what they are doing with the additional passenger point rates.

To get an exact rate, you need to call MS.

In addition, no guarantee that point reservations will always be available or that all cabins will be offered. A few years ago they blocked DVC point bookings for almost a year. Also there is a $95 booking and change fee.

Disney offers point reservations if they can't make more money with cash bookings.

The return is usually around $6.50 compared to early booking discounts with significant other negative and limitations. IF you're looking to buy retail to have the options of cruises AND to buy more points to do so, it's a triple whammy.

You may want to look at David's vacation rental. He gives a few examples of what point charge is for booking direct and what he charges. Sounds like a pretty easy way to exchange points for cruise and a much better rate than direct plus no $95 fee.

The only time I've found anything better than renting points out and taking the cash was when using direct points for Disneyland hotel rooms. No exchange fees and is much cheaper than cash reservations.
