ok.. so we are going to Disney again this year and have enough points that must be used in the present year. The points that must be used are only enough to get a studio or to book through Disney collection resorts for 7 days which is how long we will vacation for. Help me decide which to do we have 2 teen girls who are 16 and 17. Four of us total

Collection may not be available, there are only x amount of rooms offered and it's not known when they are offered.

Can you borrow points from next year if you need them?

That is with borrowing .. that is why I said they had to be used in the present use yr. I was wondering suggestions not to know if available. Only the DVC gods will know when I call.

I'm sorry, I didn't know if you were past your banking window or if you had borrowed all of your next years points.

All you can do is call and see what happens.

Good luck

I would vote for a studio. You're only going to have one bathroom either way, so you might as well be at a DVC resort and save the $95 transaction fee for the collection.

Alternatively, I personally would consider doing a few days on cash at the front end of the week and end the week with 4-5 days in a 1BR at AKV or BLT (for the second bathroom). It would be tight for the first few days, but then you would have the space of the 1BR with the kitchen and you could do some laundry when you change rooms. Just a thought. . . Also, if you are within the 7 month mark and if needed, you could consider purchasing up to 24 extra points from DVC at $15/pt to possible add another day.

Have fun planning!

There are only three months left in "this year" and it is going to be very hard to book anything this late.

Plus if you are in the last four months of your UY, you won't be able to book any Disney Collection with those points.

Our use year is December so we just have to use it by our use year so I think we have until July of this year

thanks I was thinking this but thinking the size of the pullout sofa may be tight. hmmm

You would have until then end of Nov 2012 to use your 2011 points.

Looking over point charts it usually would cost within a point or two for a studio at non DVC Disney resort than a 1 bedroom DVC one so why would you spend more points for less room? Plus the $95 fee. Go for 6 nights in a one bedroom.

I was coming up short with 1 bedrooms for some reason even with 6 days as I have 172 points. Looking at Saratoga Springs one bedroom it still would cost me 191 points for 6 nights beginning on a Sunday and ending the next Sunday. For early June time frame. Can't take kids out of school at other times either they are in advanced college prep courses. We looked at old key west but will be out of the country when our 7 month mark hits. So for 7 days one day longer because we will drive there and back it seemed like an option to go with a Disney moderate resort to burn through the points. I get so frustrated with this that I sometimes think just cut the trouble and rent a darn room someplace and pay cash. I loath changing resorts been there done that.

If you want to book OKW for early June, you won't have a problem waiting a few weeks after the seven month time frame to book it. You can get a studio at OKW for 99 points for a week in early June. You could stay longer than a week if you liked. A one bedroom would be 199 points for a week. If you don't mind a split stay, you could go for one night in a studio at OKW and six nights in one bedroom. And if you needed a few extra points you could purchase up to 24 one time use points from DVC for $15 per point at seven months out. Or you might get a transfer of points from another member. Or if you have points you could borrow, borrow enough to get the one bedroom.

thanks I like this idea just worried about getting it at 7 months or a couple of weeks after 7 months.

That's not a problem when you are talking about summer. DVC resorts are not crunched for summer like they are for fall and spring.

I think the kids are wanting Coronado springs . They seen the option of having queen beds and say that they look very comfortable. We may opt for Coronodo springs we never cook on vacation or use the kitchen except for a few drinks and sometimes the coffeemaker.

So 154 points plus a $95 booking fee to stay at CS (a moderate resort) compared to 99 points, no fee and a deluxe resort with 2 Queen beds (OKW)?

I'd skip some of the borrowing and stay in the OKW studio next summer and then have points left to put towards a 1BR on a later trip. At AKV, BLT and OKW the 1BR's all have sleeper sofa's and sleeper beds in the living room so your girls would even have their own beds.

I have to use my points all in my current use yr as we had to cancel after we borrowed. Can only do one trip this use year.
