Do DVC point charts ever change??? In other words does Disney guarantee that my 200 points today will "buy" me the same week, at the same resort, in the same room say ten (or even five) years from now?

It just seems as though their "flexible" point system is actually a way of getting more money out of you. Is this why so many owners always seem to need MORE POINTS???::MinnieMo

The total points required to rent a room for a given year will remain the same over time. Disney has the ability to redestribute the points to different days within the year. For example, Disney could make all 365 days of the year the same points (in such case, some days would go up, while others would have to go down). To date, there have been very few redistributions of significant note.

As for needing more points...it's an obsession not necessarily a "need." We "need" to go the WDW as often as possible, accordingly, we can use as many points as possible! ;)

No. What DVC does guarantee is that if they up they up the cost of a room at OKW by 5 points during a specific season, week or day, then they must reduce the points for another season, week or day by the same amount. Thus, the total amount of points required will stay the same. The easiest way to see this in action is with the Premier Weeks. They change each year with the holidays.

I believe that major changes in points has only happened twice: Once at OKW, and once at BWV, when the Preferred/Standard Views were created.

The reason that many of us end up adding on isn't because DVC lied to us, and we find that the points have risen for the period we want to visit. It's that we like it so much, that we find ourselves wanting to stay more often, or in bigger accomodations. For us, we've also found ourselves inviting family, and allowing the kids to bring along friends. That meant we wanted more points.

The rest of the reason for add ons can be summed up in two words:

PURE GREED! :teeth:

If your thinking about trying to guess the exact number of points you'll need, I'd be very cautious. While some think it's unlikely for the points to change, I personally expect them to. This will only affect the people that have cut it too close on the number of points needed. Those that are most likely affected if this happens include those that have bought the exact number of points to do the following:
  • Those looking at smaller units (studio and 1 BR).
  • Those most likely to stay off season (Adventur through Dream).
  • Those that are looking at staying just Sun-Fri avoiding weekends.
Those bought DVC with the idea of staying for all of January got a rude awakening when they had the changes cut their trips short by almost a week for the same number of points. A 16% increase in points was quite a change for them.
