Hi all! I'm new to posting here. I've been lurking and reading a lot for a little while and decided it's time to ask some questions of my own. :)

We're thinking about doing AK villas and Poly for a split stay with renting DVC points.

1) In a couple posts, I've seen people say that the dining plans would be completely separate and the first one won't roll over into the 2nd. I've seen other people say that the first will roll over recently. Any ideas which is correct?

And since they would both be DVC, I would have to purchase tickets separately.
How does that work? Would they still be attached to our MB?
Would we still be able to plan FP in advance?
And do we still get to customize our MBs?

The other option would be to do POP or POR/POFQ first with tickets and dining, and then do Poly for the 2nd half.

We could potentially stay at Poly the whole time.. but split staying will save $400-600 on the trip. Plus it sounds kind of interesting to try out two resorts. At this point, Poly is kind of our dream place to stay at. :)

There are so many options and questions, it is overwhelming!
Just looking through this forum has been so helpful and amazing though! :)

Disney does not recognize split stays. To them, or to the archaic reservation system, they are 2 completely separate reservations. So you would have the Dining Plan on each reservation, it would not carry over.

And since they would both be DVC, I would have to purchase tickets separately.

Not sure what you mean here. If say your trip is a total of 9 nights, 5 at AKL and 4 at Poly, you can purchase a 10 day Ticket and it will be good for your whole trip.

How does that work? Would they still be attached to our MB?

Nothing is attached to your MB. Your MB gives you access to any entitlements that are connected to your MDE account. Think of the MB as a debit card and your entitlements (room reservation, Tickets, Memory Maker, Dining Credits, etc) as money in the bank. Your MB/Debit Card gets you access to your entitlements/money.

Would we still be able to plan FP in advance?

Yup, up to 60 days in advance.

And do we still get to customize our MBs?

You betcha!

If you do that, make sure you get enough tickets to cover your stay at POR and Poly.

We love split stays. Because WDW has some many great resorts a split stay means you don't have to choose just one!

Thanks! What I meant by buying tickets separately is that I can't package the tickets with the DVC rental, if we're doing two different DVCs.
But if we did POP or PO if would just be through Disney and we could purchase the tickets as a package.

So from what I've read about DVC, the MBs don't get shipped to you, you have to pick them up at the resort. So I'm assuming they still show up on MDE and let you customize them then?

Nope, not true. As long as you're in the US, Magic Bands for DVC stays will be shipped to you. I booked a DVC reservation about a month ago and the MB is sitting in my guest room, next to my suitcase. :)

Gotcha. And you are correct, if you go the DVC route you would need to purchase your tickets as a separate entitlement.

The only time MBs are not shipped is if you live outside the US.

This is the first time I've booked with rented DVC points. I haven't purchased tickets yet.
When I've booked a Resort and tickets through Disney the MBs have been included. Is this the same when I purchase tickets separately?

Also, how do I get the MBs since I live in Canada?

If you want to buy tickets ahead of time so you can enter your FP+ requests, you can order tickets from Undercover Tourist or another website that sells tickets. You can also buy them from Disney if you want.

You get magic bands anytime you book a stay in a Disney resort at WDW. Just enter your reservation number into My Disney Experience and then link your tickets if they are new.

Thanks for the helpful info. :-)

Unfortunately we're only staying for 2 nights so the Undercover Tourist prices are not any less expensive than getting them straight from Disney.
(Fortunately we are then off on a Star Wars cruise on the Fantasy):cool1:

Brand new to the boards, but I've been reading. Looking to see if anything has changed with the split stay info. Due to availability, we are looking at a split stay in November. However our split is between Kidani Village and Jambo House. Wondering if Disney is still going to recognize it as separate stays (we would start in Kidani, have to move to Jambo for one night, then back to Kidani for the rest) since they are both at the same resort. If I end up basically having to deal with 3 reservations, then I think I would be better off just booking somewhere completely different the first few days, then switching to Kidani to finish out the trip. At least then I would only be dealing with 2 reservations instead of 3. Anyone else have to switch rooms within the same resort? Was it considered one reservation or two?

Yes, it will be separate stays to WDW.

Yes we have.

Was it considered one reservation or two?

Two.

Two.
Thanks for the quick response! So hypothetically speaking, would you do a 1 day Kidani/1 day Jambo/3 day Kidani reservation, or go somewhere else for 2 days, then switch to Kidani?

You're welcome. Of those 2 options, our preference would be a 2/3 split.

I can answer questions on your dining. Hope this makes sense. We did a 5 split last year with 5 resorts last year and was on the deluxe dining plan, we had one problem but Disney took care of it, it was with a 2 credit table service, so CRT, HDDR or SoA. Do not book these on the day you leave one hotel and change to another because they pull the points in the morning and if you want them on your new stay not your old it becomes a problem. Basically your dining credits go to midnight the day you move out, and will continue to pull them first until they are all gone, then will start to pull from new one. Make sure you use your snack credits on the day you change. It if you end up with any problems, Disney did correct any of our problem and even if not there fault, they apologized and did it with a smile.

We are doing a 3 split this time, we love split stays.

Also just so you know, each ressie will give you a magic band, but you can decline the bands on the second ressie and they will all end up on the one band, that is what we did. We did not want 5 different bands. We did not know this, but it is true for your cups also, the refillable cups, you can get just one and not two or three or 5, just ask for them to be good until your last day, we got 5 and then could not get them home, what a waste. This time we will just get one cup for 16 days.

Another option would be to get the dining plan for one hotel and pay cash for food during the other stay. Fill up on your buffets and higher prices restaurants on the dining plan, and pay cash for the less expensive places.

Following up on a previous question here. Our split stay has now turned into 2 nights at the Swan and 3 nights at Kidani Village. Our agent was only able to secure the second half of our split through DVC rental and we recently learned there is NO availability through DVC for our first two nights, thus the booking (by me) at the *Swan. I know I can't get DDP at the Swan. However, will I have any trouble linking my tickets (purchased from Undercover Tourist) to our reservation? Can I still get DDP for the Kidani Village portion of our stay?
*There is availability at a few places through Disney, but the Swan was less expensive.

You can still ask the member to add the dining plan to your KV stay. You'll have magic bands for your KV stay and your tickets will be on them. You just won't be able to charge to the room while you are at the Swan. You'll still have to have a card key to open your door at the Swan, too.

Thank you so much! That answers all of my questions. I wanted to add my tickets to my reservation and was getting nervous that it would mess something up.
"You'll still have to have a card key to open your door at the Swan, too." - so I should bring my lanyard.... :-)
