DVC owners living in Orlando?

My DH and I have been thinking of purchasing DVC for about a year now. We've been to the sales presentation, crunched all the numbers etc... After all this we really want to make the purchase. Now we find that my DH may be taking a job in Orlando...very excited about this! But my question is...are there many DVC owners living in Orlando? Or would it be crazy to still buy DVC after relocating?

I don't think I would invest the money in DVC unless I lived at least an hour away. It might be worthwhile if the value per point was the same at DL or DCL, but unfortunately that's not the case.

Nope, I would go to WDW everytime I had a day off and then head back home to my nice comfortable bed and my own bathroom!

We live less than 30 mins away and are DVC members. We bought at Vero, because it is where we will stay the most. However, I love taking a Disney Vacation and staying a couple of nights on property.
We had my Brother in Law in his wife over last night and she was saying she has never been to MGM or Animal Kingdom--she has lived here at least 20 years, possibly her entire life. And she wants to go, she loves theme parks. I think sometimes when you live here you take for granted the parks and never use them. Having DVC ensures I will continue to enjoy the parks.

There is another recent thread about this, I will see if I can find it.

I have several friends who own DVC and live within 30 minutes of WDW. They love to hop over for a weekend every so often. They also use it for family visits.

I purchased DVC while living in NC - two months later I ended up relocating to Central Florida about 27 miles from the BWV. I had no plans to move here - life just happened that way. But you know, it has been great despite living so close. I use my DVC when family & friends visit or when I just need a pick-me-up weekend away from the real world. I've just moved again, to an apartment about 5 miles from the BWV so we'll see how things work now. I don't have any plans to sell - I'll just see about being more creative with using my points, maybe for cruising or Vero Beach or something completely different.

I agree with everyone who says use them at Vero. I don't think I'd buy them there if you think there is a possibility you might move again.

I'd also use my points during weekends when something is going on. It's kind of like Manhattan. It'd take me an hour and fifteen to get there by train so I don't go in. If Disney built a DVC there (Eisner are you listening?) I'd go much more often.
