I am thinking of joining DVC. I have 3 children (DDs 8 & 3 and DS 8 mo.) Would we be able to stay in a studio until my son is older? Does DVC restrict the # of people per room like the regular resorts? I don't mean that I'll be squeezing my extended family in. I just don't know if we'll need a 1 BR until my son is bigger.

I don't think DVC counts anyone under 3 so for a couple of years you could get away with it. After that you would need a 2 bedroom because you would be over the capacity for a one bedroom which is 4. This post will probably be closed because the question brings up some heated debates and remarks.

A studio has a double bed and sleep sofa. I am not sure where you would put the 3rd kid when he is too big for a crib. Having that 3rd one sure puts a dent in the wallet, be prepared. No more Value or Moderate Resorts, when traveling other places, you need at suite room when you say "5". They only respite you will get is when they go off to college and you go to WDW without them. We are back to 1 bedroom villas!

You will be fine for a few years. Dvc even has a play pin type crib that you can request or is even in some if not all rooms.

Boardwalk actually has some rooms that hold 5 but they can not guarantee those anymore.

I feel the 2-bdr are just a couple more points than the 1-bdr and well worth the space on the trips that I have 5 or more.

I would stick to a studio or 1 bdr if my kids were still very young though.

I think it really depends on how much time you will be in the room.

Have a great trip.

studio and 1 bedroom the maxium is 4 people a 2 bedroom maxium of 8 people , Gv maxium 12 people.

all vacation homes include a pack and play crib for traveling with infants.

the guide book really doesnt say anything about children under a certain age doesnt count in your maxium of people.

infants, toddlers, children under 3 may count towards your maxium of people per room, make sure you ask your guide, maybe they will know or have suggestions.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure we'll all want more space when the kids are bigger but for now I hate to 'waste' the points.

It sounds to me like an OKW studio would work a bit better for you because of the 2 queen beds as opposed to 1 bed and one loveseat size pull out.

When you make your reservation tell the cm that you have a 5th person , 8 months old. In the past they have even listed 5 in a studio/one bedroom.

My guide book states the number that each unit sleeps (amount of bed space) not the maximum allowed.

I doubt many go over the amount number of persons that there is beds for. I have really wondered if there was actually many at the resort. It never feels crowded, more empty. For the number of rooms, the bus stops do not even have many at them.

Doesn't the "Product Understanding Checklist" call those maximum allowed?

Isn't that a rather underhanded interpurtation?

im sorry maxium was my word, i was just saying the guide book really doesnt say anything of including / not including infants, toddlers children under 3 as part or not part of the guests staying in a dvc room. i never said i was quoting from the guide book, i just used the guide book as a reference.

but i will quote my guide book word from word if you would like,

"you choose the size that's right for you, according to the vacation you're planning to take. studios and one bedroom vacation homes accommodate up to four guests: two bedroom vacation homes sleep up to eight: and three bedroom vacation homes sleep up to twelve."

im sorry that i took "up to" the exact numbers that i posted as maxium.

Hi, Just a note to add. Before joining DVC I spoke with the rep who made a call to confirm you could sleep with 3 kids in a studio or 1 bdrm this was the response..." You can sleep 5 in a studio or 1 bdrm but they will not supply a bed, if the number of people is 6 or more then per fire code you must goto a 2 bdrm". Good news to my ears. I felt the pressure was off incase a 2 bdrm wasn't available when we wanted to stay. princess:

For what it is worth, studios are about 355 square feet at BWV, BCV, VWL, SSR - configured with a Queen Bed and a Double bed sofa couch and a kitchenette

OKW studios are 376 square feet with 2 Queen Beds and always feel a little bigger since they are not rectangles but have some angle to them - a lot of the extra space though is in the bathroom

Good luck in your decision and choice - having 3 kids is wonderful

The reason why we purchased DVC was because we are a family of five and Disney was forcing us to get two rooms which is much too expensive for us.

You own DVC so Disney cannot tell you how many people you are allowed in a room, but they can tell you that they will only provide bedding for a certain number per room. The only time Disney can restrict the number of people is when it exceeds the fire code. A family of 5 does not exceed the fire code for a studio. If it did, then Disney would be in a lot of trouble with PO - Riverside in which they allow 5 in a studio that is smaller then any of the DVC resorts.

If you want to talk about my experiences, please email me. This subject tends to get very sticky with a lot of people.

I knew this bunch would help! Thanks!

DB Kelly--How many people can sleep in a one bedroom at OKW-would you say 30,40,or close to 50???I wonder what failing to obey the capacity limits would do to the pools, buses, boat to DD just to mention a few things??I have to tell you the rules are there for everyone!!

dvc told us in our contracts that we all signed how many people are limited to per room.

Occupancy in Dvc resort vacation home is limited to 4 persons in a studio or 1 bedroom, 8 persons in a 2 bedroom, and 12 persons in a 3 bedroom

i am only passing on the info , its your personal buisness & dvc how many people you would like to stay in the rooms.:teeth:

No need to seek permission from a webboard. Call MS as I have, they will give you the answer you seek.

Most people do what is best for their family comfort. An aerobed is a nice option for a 1-BR DVC unit.

Enjoy your vacations.

I have 3 children and would prefer a 2 BR...however, I won't always have the points to do that. I think an aerobed mattress in a one bedroom is a fine option and was even suggested to me by other DVC'ers...members and guides alike.

However, I personally hope I can always swing a 2 BR, even if it means spending the weekend before and after our stay in Pop Century (2 rooms) or Dolphin with a rollaway.

According to when I booked my trip last October in a 1 br with 2 adults and 3 children, DVC will allow 5 in a 1 br. I told them I had 5, they said that was fine, they had it on my reservation, so I consider that "legally" declared and approved by them. We were at BCV and also got 5 keys for the room. They will not, however, provide additional bed linens and towels and kitchen stuff.

However, I was told that they do not allow 5 in a studio.

Sometimes - as many here know - we all get different answers when calling MS.
