DVC night for extra evening hours AND reservation at All Star Sports

Saving points for a Grand Villa stay for our 40th anniversary so staying a week in All Star Sports in Feb. Thinking about using a few points for a studio to qualify for extra evening hours at MK. Don’t want to change resorts for one night in the middle of the trip and figured we would also have the flexibility use the pool and amenities at the deluxe resort check in and check out day...
Would this cause us any issues with the reservation system - having reservations at 2 resorts for the same night. Thought we could get cards from the resort for a room key. Will this plan mess up our magic bands?

I know that when we book two rooms we have to use a different adult's name for each room, but they are overlapping reservations (same resort at the same time), so I don't see why not. Never tried it for a villa and hotel room combination though. Maybe someone will chime in with direct experience on that mix.

You’d have to checked out first. Now, you could have some additional guests added to the all stars resort in your middle names so they stay checked in. Problem with that is that cash stays charge more for over two adults.

We too have booked the same night when we split stay so we are not homeless, but we also officially check out of the old and into the new later that night. You want to stay for the whole time.

I can’t think of a way around it since going to night hours requires access to the account with your tickets.

Edited to add that I did have to call and speak in person to do it, as the system won't allow you to do it. But the CM did it for us on the phone.

That’s why I said they would need guests on the all stars reservation who never get checked into someplace else.

Another example. We had a 2 bedroom booked at BRV years ago and I booked my DS and his wife a night mid stay at VGF.

They had to be checked out of BRV, into VGF, and then added back in afterwards.

We didn’t have to worry about the room since there were 4 of us who were staying at BRV the whole time.

I don’t think you can link rooms with different guests in between…it’d be a check out and in. It would work to add a third person to the all star resort who never checks out…

But, they charge extra per night for that. The problem with having the All Star reservation in your middle name, etc. but not linked means one wouldn’t be recognized for onsite perks such as early entry.

The way to get it to work would be to just check out of the all star, store luggage, take an overnight bag to the deluxe resort, check in, do night hours, sleep there, and then check back in the next day back at all stars. But that seems like a lot of work.

I know you can do extra night hours on a check out day from a deluxe…one thought is to chance it, don’t do online check in for the deluxe stay and hope when one arrives at the park the system sees you have a deluxe night?

How many points is the night going to cost you?
Let's say 15, an average number. If you rent them at $18 it's $270. Are 2 hours worth $270? You can pay for two after hours event tickets with those money, which is 4 hours and lower crowds. Or 2 MNSSHP tickets and have some money to spare. Even if there are 4 of you in the room, I still don't see the value of paying for a room just for the extra hours.

You could put your actual MBE names that link to tickets on the DVC reservation and put some junk on the All Stars (like M Mouse instead of Mickey Mouse). Never link the All Stars reservation, it's just free-floating and not tied to your tickets. You'd have to go to the desk and get a M Mouse card, and you wouldn't get the morning hours. I don't use the morning hours, so this would be fine for me.

Also, park reservations are problematic without hotel reservations, if you have APs.

I second this.

You'll get a room easily as nice as a Disney Deluxe for not much more than a standard at Sports.

That'd definitely be the way to go, IMO, unless not staying at Sports is a deal breaker for some reason.

So the only non-Disney (“other Select”) hotels that qualify for extra evening hours are Swan, Dolphin and Swan Reserve. Our 8 nights at All Star Sports is $1780, with Annual Pass 30% discount Swan is over $3000, Travelocity is just under $3000 (Dolphin is not available for our nights). Bummer. Well, thanks again for all your input!!

Definitely true. It is just that we recently had an extra hours night in early May, I think it was, at Magic Kingdom that was so awesome. I was literally alone in the haunted mansion queue for about 10 or 15 minutes, so I just wandered around the cemetery at one point. Had many walk ons and parts of the park practically to ourselves. Besides hoping for that experience again, we would have use of the deluxe resort facilities, restaurants and particularly pools, for two full days.
Idk, it was just an idea.
We will have to decide if it would be worth the hassle of checking out of the all stars and into DVC for one night then back to the All-Stars. But we would recoup $175 (the cost of that all star room) bringing the point worth extra cost to $95. I know if we are able to snag a discount on that All-Star room sometime prior to February, that brings up the point cost.

I have never been to an extended 2 hour that was that empty.. I think you got lucky. That sounds more like paid Extra Hours.

It would be worth it for me! I don't mind split stays though so that makes a difference...the all stars holds your luggage...just have a backpack you take with you to the deluxe resort...and then back the next day....the drawback is being homeless but with planning, it can be no big deal!!

If you have a car, you could do a triple split stay. Off site/moderate -> DVC -> off site/moderate

I don't view split stay as a big deal at Disney because they move your bags for you. Maybe a bigger deal if you are trying to make morning hours or staying offsite without a car.
