We had another great day in paradise today. Went to the Nemo Preview (more on that later), went to a Sam Adams Beer seminar (tough course!) and totally enjoyed the "Call of the Wild" wine event at Le Cellier - one the F&W sepcial events.
The Le Cellier event was limited to 40 and featured ice wines from the Inniskillin Winery of Niagara-on-the-Lake, CA. Ice wines are made from grapes picked after freezing to -8 to -12 degrees (Centigrade). Pretty pricy stuff, but oh so delicious. We sampled three icewine pairings along with a special meal prepared by Chef Brian Piasecki at Le Cellier.
Appetizer was Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes with Chipotle Aioli and Petite Salad- served with a Sparkling VIdal icewine - very Champagne-like.
Entree was Grilled Tenderloin of Pork with butternut squash soup and a Mache & Shallot salad with maple glaze - paired with an Oak aged Vidal icewine.
As if that wasn't enough, Dessert was Apple Fritters with Mascarpone Ice Cream and Vanilla Bean Syrup served with another Vidal icewine. Everything was delicious and the event was really nicely done.
The Sam Adams Seminar was held next to the American Pavillion and featured a discussion about the history of Sam Adams (Governor of Mass, signed Declaration of Independence, lousy beer maker) and how the Boston Beer Company (maker of Sam Adams Beer) came to be in recent years. Very informative -- AND --- we got to sample four beers with a brief lecture on each one. Sam Adams Light (124 calories), Sam Adams Lager, Sam Adams Octoberfest and a dark beer specially brewed for the F&W. All were great.

The Nemo Preview was a lot of fun. It's nice to see something actively back in that area of LS again. There was a pretty good crowd of DVC members and AP holders in the queue. The sign said it was a 20 min wait, but it was no more than 15. The old Hydrolators are gone as well as "The Seas" movie at the start. The queue now takes up the old pre-show area as well as the movie theater and Hydrolator access point. The ride vehicles look like brightly painted doombuggies - a al Haunted Mansion. They are decorated as clam shells. There are lots of digital special effects featuring Marlin, Dory, Mr. Ray and of course Nemo. This is a big improvement over the old ride, but the rest of LS is pretty much the same.
I have added these photos to the photopage here on the DIS at full size, but here are some thumbnails. Click on the image for a larger view.
Enjoy! I plan to do a little research about AKV and will report anything interesting later in the week. (We still have another 9 days!
