Hi, I couldn't find the old thread about the DC area getting a DVC hotel. I think it was slated for National Harbor in MD. I was wondering if anyone had heard any new news about this project. Like if they were really going to do it and if so when?

Nope, nothing new. Don't think it's a high priority, either. When they bought the land in Hawaii 3 years ago, they were immediately crowing about how many rooms would be involved, the DVC presence and some estimated opening dates.

When the DC land purchase occurred, there were no details, no concept art, no mention of DVC and no groundbreaking / opening estimates.

In fact, Disney paid so little for the land ($11 million) that it's entirely possible they could simply sell it off in a few years without ever building a hotel/timeshare. The prospect of taking a small loss on the project is immaterial--and they could even end up turning a small profit.

It's also worth noting that Jay Rasulo was the public face of the purchase, but he is no longer in charge of Parks & Resorts. If Tom Staggs doesn't have the same vision for a Disney resort in DC, it ain't happening.

It may depend on how Aulani does, and whether there is enough draw in DC. But it would be far from the first time Disney announced a resort that didn't happen.

Does Disney do an adventure to the Nation's Capital? They do one around where I live, and though the groups are small they and the guests are paying to stay on someone else's property.

I went to the ICE show at the Gaylord this past winter and at the bottom of the main street of national harbor there was a big poster clearly labeled "The Disney Site" stating that a hotel would be built there. it could very well just be in the planning stages and we will hear of it in due time. After all, Disney can't do every project at once...

Here is a picture of the poster I saw.
