Any idea when the free internet for DVC Members begins?

I tried a searching the boards but couldn't find an answer to my question.

In the newest (Spring) Disneyfiles magazine, it says to check the NEXT (Summer) issue. :confused3

This is AWESOME news! DH saw it in the magazine. We are coming for 2 weeks in August and this would save me BIG BUCKS. We also purchased the Slingbox so we can watch the Red Sox in Disney.

Let's hope it starts before then!!!

Don't get your hopes up too high. They said to check the next issue of Disneyfiles for more info. That could mean once DVC Hawaii is completed. That was 2012, right???? DVC gives verrrrrrryyyyyy slowly. They take away faster than the speed of sound. ;)

I thought that they said at the Dec meeting it would start in the new year. I am going in about 60 days, I will be soooooo bummed if we have to pay for internet.

I just purchased a new contract and my guide said that free internet for members will start in April. He said it with confidence, so hopefully he was not fully of bs:surfweb:

If that was the case, why didn't the Disneyfiles (actually Jim Lewis and his column) say it would be coming in April instead of saying check the next issue of Disneyfiles (the summer issue)?

Did he actually say April 2008? Could be April 2009 or April 2010.

Oh it better be April 2008 or I'm giving holy heck to everyone with a Disney badge. ;)

I'll be at SSR April 20-27 after coming from my Marriott April 6-20.

I still laugh at the memory when I took my first tour. My guide knew from the interview that I was a web designer so frequently worked while on vacation. (I carry a laptop in my backpack.) He proudly showcased the DVC Internet hookup in the 2bedroom model. It only costs $9.95 per day, he said with a huge smile. I just smirked. "Gee at our Marriott timeshare (where we were staying) we get it for free."

Still, going to London last year and staying at our Marriott hotel put it into perspective for me. The highest category hotels still don't give free internet as promised. With the exchange rates, I paid about $150 for a week. (That's half my broadband service for a year at home.)

DH got free access last month at BWV. After inquiring about it at check-in he was told it was a DVC issue and to talk to DVC at the model villas. DVC reps did not have anything more than "this spring". When logging on DH got an error msg telling him to call tech support. DH called. He told the nice lady at Tech support the msg and mentioned he was disappointed the access was not free yet but he wasn't going to unload on her about it. She thanked him for that then gave him a code that worked for the three weeks we were there. We received no internet charges. So the process is available. I don't know why it has not been implemented.

Maybe he's learning. NEVER quote an exact date to a bunch of rabid DVC members. :)

It's probably more of a "done when its done" thing. They have to somehow differentiate between members/non-members, points/no-points, or whatever the exact delineation is going to be for free-or-not. That may be a more complex problem than at first blush, especially if they are dealing with an outside contractor providing the service.
