Hi due to exact dates availible for travel I could not get my DVC property :sad2: nor any other location within the Disney resorts.
I have elected to stay at a resort a few miles from Magic K and my question is..

Does being a DVC member give any perks?
Park entry?
should I buy park tickets before I leave??
Meals??

anything else anyone can think of???

I am leaving on the 14th of March and would love to get some input

Thanks all

Looking forward to relaxing
Hope the weather is good

As you know from your closing contracts, DVC is a pre-paid accommodations at WDW only...no included park tickets or meals etc.

Being a DVC member WILL get you a $100 discount on the annual pass and your member card will also get you discounts at some of the Disney restaurants. Check the member website for the current ones.

Wow.....you are going in March and nothing was available at SSR or OKW? Or at ANY resort?!! That's crazy!!!

As pp said, DVC membership entitles you to $100 off an annual pass. No other park ticket savings. Just go to any Guest Relations at the park entrances to purchase your tickets - that will be the easiest. As for meals, if you were staying at a Disney resort you would be elligible for the meal plan, but since you are staying off-site, this is not an option.

Are you renting a car? If not, I would look-into bus transportation at your resort and make sure they coincide to when you want to arrive/leave the parks during the day. I have found that some outside resort offer a limited schedule.

Also keep in mind that an off-site resort that is a "few miles outside the MK" is most likely miles away from the Disney property line, which is more than a few miles from the MK. Just don't want that to be a surprise once you get there.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

Thanks for the input..

The resort I am staying is only a couple of miles from the disney property line I am at the Westgate Spa on Turkey road. I do have a car but I will find other ways of getting to the parks and use the DW buses.

I knew the DVC did not include tickets I just wondered if they would be discounted but thaks for clearing that up.

As to no availability I could have gone to the regular rooms and paid about $600 extra for the downgrade..hmmm maybe next time lol

I did not know about the discounted restaurants and will look into it.

I had another question .. My daughter wants to go back to the AKL to visit while we are there... will I be welcome or will they be "ify" about a non guest roaming the Lodge????

thanks again and hope to get more tips as the countdown is on.:yay:

Anyone is welcome to visit any of the Disney resorts to have a look around. Just tell the security guy at the gate that's what you're doing and there shouldn't be a problem.

ALL WDW resorts are open to anyone. Anyone can go there for restaurants, so why would Disney want to exclude anyone's money???

I'm in Orlando right now staying at the Doubletree at Universal (business meeting, I didn't pick the place). I've been driving back and forth to WDW for two days now and so glad I have a PAP. Free parking with that one.

PLUS, if you need a watch, they are all 25% off right now. With that and my Disney Visa (or AP) discount, I got about $75 off the one I bought.

I did get to visit the models at SSR and see the BLT models in person. That bathroom/kitchenette in the studio isn't pretty.

Isn't the BLT studio disappointing? I am vacillating about staying there just because of that vanity-in-the-kitchenette layout. I just cannot fathom blowdrying my hair in the kitchen! However, being on the monorail and walking distance to MK.....

Parking is free if you get an annual pass. Something to keep in mind if you end up taking your car to the parks.

It's gross - blow drying hair that close to the kitchen.

I looked to see if they could have turned the bathroom sink around and located it in the bathroom with the tub and toilet, but I don't think there was enough room. The kitchenette work space/open space would have been about 2 feet wide - not nearly wide enough to work. By putting the kitchenette in that orientation (and it is very nice), there wasn't much room left for the bathroom sink. So you have an unsanitary situation.

I asked about the dedicated two bedroom and it was just the same, but no kitchen space. Just the bathroom.

I believe you can still get dining discounts at the restaurants that offer DVC discounts, even if you are not staying on property. Just show them you DVC member card.

You may want to check out Marriott Vacation club.
