dvc member point increase for my end of aug vacation is insane!!

Specifics would help (resort, room size & view, dates, etc.)

The DVC points charts are always subject to change. It’s cited in all of the purchase documents. Reallocations have happened before and will happen again.

That said, I don’t recall any recent changes which specifically impact late August.

OP must be a renter, and rental prices are on the rise. As noted, DVC has not changed points for Aug 2018. Some in 2019 have but one could not have a reservation for Aug 2019 at this time. Can the OP add details so we can help you understand your problem?

Hmm I have end of Aug booked for Beach Club. Of course it is more then September as it is a different season if that is what you mean but in terms of increase from other summer dates I did not see that...

IIRC, the last two weeks of August are LESS expensive than the first two weeks (as far as points go). At least that has been true for BWV for as long as I can remember.

I think the renter must mean he/she has to pay more per point this year. As BillPA posted, rental prices have been increasing.

If I were to rent my points I would also ask for more than the usual $15-17 pp.

Imho prices has gone up just look at the buyin costs and annual dues.

If you just put up your points for rent then maybe $16-17 pp would be ok. If you have a hard to get reservation then $20 is also okay. I see it like this, if the renter saves 40% compared to renting direct then $20 pp is fine.

You can rent your points for whatever someone is willing to pay.

Rental prices have less to do with buy in cost & annual dues than they do with demand for DVC villas and the cash prices charged by Disney for a Hotel room.

For example, you probably won't get $20 pp for a reservation that one can get directly from Disney for just a few dollars more. Disney has a generous cancellation policy and includes daily housekeeping.

During the recession, rental prices have been at $10 (or even less) per point for a long time while MF increased. Increased demand caused the price to increase.

I thought it was the increased number of brokers that raised the price of renting. The brokers are competing with each other to get the most points, pay the member the most they can and still get a return for their labor.

As owners and agencies, we can get $16-18 per point for premium rentals. It is still a savings on Disney pricing for most resorts. The demand is insane out there - much higher than supply of rooms or points to rent.

It's basic economics. Why wouldn't we ask $16+?
